we recently had a most enjoyable evening at The Derby Arms, Having reserved a table at 7.30 it was good to see how busy and popular it was. We found a good choice of real ales and were met by Adam, the manager who was most helpful and shown to our table. Having had lunch earlier in the day,we went straight for the main course, a good choice as the portuions were so generous. I had the steak and ale pie which melted in the mouth and my wife had the fish & Chips which were some of the best we had ever had. All very reasonably priced and good value with excellent customer service which can be very rare these days. Will definately return

The only thing I can say positively about this pub is the quality and range of the beers. How can this be considered a 'special place to stay'? We booked a table on the basis of good pub guides, etc. We were rushed to a poky, wobbly little table, encouraged to order and then our meals arrived within five minutes of ordering. My crab salad was just a prepared crab with some basically presented salad leaves + red onion which I could have shoved together in my own kitchen.. it was not served with any bread. I then had to order bread at a price. What arrived were some thick slabs of processed, tasteless bread. My partners steak pie had spent too long in the microwave. A disappointing rip off. We were in and out of the pub in less than an hour. Quick service, but I didn't feel the atmosphere was very genuine.

Myself and my family go for Sunday lunch to this establishment on a regular basis and always find the food outstanding every time, I don't know where people get the idea that the beef there could be tough and tasteless in any way, it melts in my mouth every time, even the kids love it and they are so hard to please, my Son has the beef and my Daughter always has pasta which the wolf down with guster. Sadly this site has turned into a place for moaners that have nothing better to do but hide behind there keyboards with some sort of grump on. This should be a site that celebrates everything that this country has to offer, not downgrade it for travellers and tourists alike.

Hidden away in a nice little village with not a lot else, It's a welcoming place, with a nice relaxed ambiance, good beers on offer, and friendly helpful staff. Alas, my most important criterion for assessing a restaurant is the quality of the food eaten, which in this case was not very good. The pasta we had was overcooked. The beef was tough and tasteless really. I don't know what they are feeding the Parbold cattle they go on about in the menu, but it's not decent grass by the taste of them. Maybe they have to forage about for food in the quarry there.

Could be great, but isn't at the moment.

Away with our year old Australian Labradoodle for the first time and looking for a dog friendly place to eat and there were a few others about. One was outside with it's owner having a pint and two others were in the bar. All well behaved and unobtrusive. There was a nice relaxed atmosphere, very friendly staff and a great menu with ample choice for my vegetarian wife. All in all a very pleasant experience and I'm sure we will be back.
