“Nice apartment with everything you may need in it and close to the sea!”

It was our second trip to Marina Di Ragusa (the first one was in July 2014) and we thoroughly enjoyed our visit. We rented an apartment through Ivan who, as always, was very hospitable, helpful and accommodating.

The apartment we had is 5 minutes walk from the piazza and all the central restaurants, bars and shops. Everything you may need during your stay is already prepared in your apartment. I like the fact that you can cook your food outside on a BBQ if you wish.

We like that there are few tourists in Marina Di Ragusa and the place is unspoilt. Not many people speak English, which is fine by us, as we get the feel of a real Italy and Italian people who are happy to share their way of life with you. Overall we had a great long weekend break :)! We'll come again!

“Fantastic apartment in a great location”

This is the second time we have stayed in Marina di Ragusa with www.vacanzemarina.com , but the first time at this fantastic apartment.
Ivan greeted us on arrival at 22.30hrs and explained everything we needed to know about the apartment and details about the area. It was a large, spacious, bright and very clean 3 bedroom apartment and it was great waking up every morning to sunny views of the Mediterranean sea. Each morning we took breakfast on one of the 3 balconies overlooking the sea and promenade. There are plenty of good restaurants and bars in the area and although we stayed in Mid April most places were opened. Ivan recommended Il Delfino restaurant and booked us a table where we had great service and a wonderful meal.
We hired a car through Gmservizi at Comiso airport but for those who do not want to drive there is also an airport bus that runs to Marina di Ragusa or you can get a taxi transfer to the resort.
One of the main reasons for us holidaying in this part of Sicily is that I am a great fan of Inspector Montalbano and Marina Di Ragusa is a great base to explore the many locations seen in the series. This holiday we took in Punta Secca, where Salvo seafront home is located and visited Ragusa, both of which can be reached by bus. We also took a trip to Sampieri and the brick factory and had an amazing day at Donnafugata castle, home to the mafia boss Sinagra. Last July we also went to Scicli and for a couple of euros were able to visit the town Hall that doubles as the police station.
I would definitely recommed a stay at Du soleil 1 for a holiday.
Marina Di Ragusa is a hidden gem, the people are friendly and it is a great family resort.
We will definitely be coming again and if this apartment is full will stay in one of Ivan's other apartments.
He was a great host and thank you Ivan for all your help!

“Large comfortable apartment in excellent location”
Reviewed 27 July 2014 for a stay in July 2014

I'm a little reluctant to write this review, as I almost feel like the resort is my little secret and I hope that in years to come it doesn't get too spoilt by the opening of the nearby airport, but the efforts of locals like the apartment owner Ivan to promote the resort should be rewarded by some commercial success.
I stayed here with my wife and three children aged 11, 7 and 6 in July 2014, we were slow to book our annual holiday this year and booked this holiday because of the low cost flights to the recently opened Comiso Airport, which is about 25 minutes drive away.
The apartment is clean comfortable and very nice as in the, photo's from their web-site, with 3 bedrooms, comprising 3 double beds and 2 bunk beds each bedroom has it's own balcony, the living room/kitchen also has it's own balcony.
The kitchen area has a microwave and hob (no oven), a fridge and washing machine, there is also an iron, iron board, hair dryer and TV.
The apartment overlooks a section of the beach between a beach restaurant and toilet block, with 5 palm trees providing shade.
Although the apartment sleeps 10, I think if it was filled to the maximum then this would be a little claustrophobic, particularly due to the 1 bathroom (with no working lock).
The beach itself is about 2 miles of beautiful sand, quite often we would have the section of beach outside of the apartment to ourselves, but the whole beach gets very busy at weekends, particularly on Sundays.
The temperatures when we stayed were quite high usually around 32 centigrade mid afternoon, so because we had a young family, we tended to head for the beach as early as possible, then retreat to the apartment early afternoon to avoid the mid-day sun, thankfully there was a good breeze for part of our stay, that kept the temperature down and helped to create great waves for the kids to bodysurf.
We would usually cooked our own meals at lunch time, then relaxed for a few hours before heading out later in the day, we brought colouring books, Nintendo's, tablets, cards, books, the TV has a few channels showing American/British made films/dramas that can be changed back into English via the tools button on the remote, but there is very little to entertain the kids, it would be a good idea to bring along a small dvd player and a few dvds to connect to the tv, to relax young children and get them off to sleep, so that you can take them out for the evening later without them being too tired.
The resort itself is very nice, mainly populated by locals and Italians holidaying there, we very rarely heard anyone speaking English, so a little Italian is very much appreciated and goes a long way, though most restaurant/shops have someone who can speak some English, the resort comes alive at night, when the promenade between the apartment and beach is full of locals and holidaymakers walking up and down the 2 mile stretch, taking in the evening and greeting each other, the locals are very friendly and by the end of your stay you will be on first name terms with several of them, there is absolutely no yobbish/drunken behaviour from anyone, no fast food, no slot machines and no loud music banging out..
At night we would usually be sat out at a restaurant/bar watching the passers by or sat in the nearby square having an ice-cream and taking in the street entertainment.
There is a ARD supermarket around the corner, which is handy for bottled water, pop and ice cream, further on about 10 minutes walk up from this supermarket is a Spar Supermarket which has most things you would have in your local TESCO.
Prices in the supermarkets, restaurants and the street vendors are reasonably cheap.
As a Coeliac I found the bakery on the left on the next main road up from the square great as they had gluten free bread, also there is a gluten free cafe just off the main square that sells cone shaped type fish cakes (excuse my ignorance) comprising around a dozen different types of choices, this cafe also sold gluten free beer, both of these premises had lovely helpful staff.
The first restaurant recommended by Ivan (Tri Case?) also was very good in ensuring my meal was gluten free.
There is a good playground for the kids about 5 minutes walk away between the ARD and Spar supermarkets.
We didn't have a hire car during our stay, I think you would need one if you intended making more than 2 excursions, although I personally would be nervous driving along the roads outside of the town, the local bus only goes to Ragussa about 8 times a day, taxis are also hard to find, we made one trip to the old part of Ragussa which was well worth it, but it was hard work mid afternoon when most places were closed.
But the main selling point of the apartment is Ivan himself, who is easy going, but at the same time will go out of his way to make your stay as pleasant as possible.
