“The Perfect Relaxing Family Getaway”
Reviewed 13 April 2014 for a stay in March 2014

My husband and I stayed in this wonderful home with our almost 2 year old daughter for 6 nights and had one of the best family and vacation experiences. This beautiful house--called Elanbeco--was absolutely perfect and exceeded our expectations. Even after reading all the excellent reviews, we were amazed at home much better this was than we imagined.

The setting for this house is absolutely gorgeous--definitely charming, though I feel that word doesn't quite do it justice. It is nestled back off a long dirt road (don't worry Corrado will help you find it no problem) amongst a vibrant lemon grove. I tried to count the number of lemon and orange trees and stopped at 100 (there are more). It is private and secluded, yet in just about 10 minutes by car you can be in the heart of Avola, with grocery stores, shops, churches, etc. There is abundant outdoor space, with a huge patio with sunny areas and shaded areas, an outdoor dining area and even a separate pizza oven and grill area--all of we which enjoyed using. There are plenty of tables and chairs, so you can eat wherever you want on the patio. We would often move them around depending on the view and amount of sun we wanted. The views are spectacular--both mountains and the sea. You can even see the city of Siracusa off in the distance. While we were there, an in-ground pool adjacent to the house was being finished up (it was too cold to swim so anyway). I can imagine this will be an incredibly popular feature when the weather gets warmer. We loved having so much livable outdoor space and spent a great majority of our time on the patio and garden area. Be sure to go out on the patio at night and see the stars--the views are so amazing, we could clearly make out some constellations and even see some planets with our naked eyes.

The house itself is so beautfiul and unique, maintaining it's authenticity and charm with the older features such as the wooden beam ceiling and gorgeous wooden doors and windows. The high ceilings help make this home feel very spacious and airy. It is a tad rustic--no microwave or electric coffee maker--but we found that we enjoyed learning to do things the "old fashioned" way. The kitchen has everything available to you that you need to prepare delicious meals--including spices, oil, vinegar and all the cutlery and cookery you could need. There was even a panini press, which we put to good use. The house was very clean and well stocked with essentials you forget about but find necessary in a home (aluminum foil, cling wrap, soaps, laundry detergent, etc) all of which are available for your use. Also, the wi-fi was very strong--we experienced no problems with it. We felt so relaxed and truly at home here.

The 2 bedrooms are huge, with plenty of comfortable beds and storage space, so you can feel organized. The bathrooms were also quite spacious. While there wasn't a tub, the farmhouse style sink in one of the bathrooms was large enough to bathe our daughter in. But our favorite shower was the one outside. Even though it was cool outside, we loved the refereshing feeling of showering in this beautiful tiled area amid looking up at the sky and the lemon trees.

No review of this house and property would be complete without mentioning the owner, Corrado. He is such an incredibly friendly, warm and welcoming host. He truly wants you to be happy in his home and will do his absolute best to make sure you are. Our family fell in love with him and our daughter would get so excited to see him and say she wanted to "kiss Corrado" when he came and left. He felt like long-lost family! While he is not on site, Corrado makes himself available to you 24/7 and promptly responds to any calls or questions. His English is great (which isn't that common in Sicily as it is in other parts of Italy) and he was very kind and patient in trying to help me with my Italian. Corrado gave us a tour around the area, so we would know where to find all the essential shops and he even showed us a nearby beach, which was one of the most beautiful ones we've seen--so clean and clear turquoise water and hardly anyone there-- where we spent much time. His restaurant suggestion turned out to be our best meal in Sicily! We are also appreciative that Corrado let us come a day early when our other plans changed.

Another tip/ suggestion: You are going to need a car for this stay--I cannot imagine being here without one.

As for location--we found it to be perfect. Siracusa and Ortigia were only about a 25 minute drive away--buit that was taking the scenic route and the town of Noto is about 20 minutes in the other direction. For us, it was totally worth being able to stay in this lovely "suburb" of Avola and enjoying the peace, tranquility and beauty while being so close to the city of Siracusa.

We truly enjoyed our time at Elanbeco and found it to be the perfect relaxing getaway for our family. We are so incredibly grateful to Corrado for his hospitality and making this such a memorable experience for us. Grazie mille, Corrado!! We hope to come back again--for even longer next time!

“A perfect Sicilian hideaway!”
Reviewed 26 November 2013 for a stay in October 2013

We had a wonderful stay here and even in late October the weather was perfect and swimming in the sea was lovely. The farmhouse is excellent as are the surroundings - wonderful aromas of lemons and jasmine! A great base for exploring eastern Sicily. Corrado himself is very helpful, pleasant, and interesting!

“Lovely house in a beautiful corner of Sicily”
Reviewed 22 October 2013 for a stay in September 2013

We spent a fantastic nine days at this property with our two young children (aged 3 and 5) at the end of September. We found it to be a very secluded and relaxing place and the kids loved playing in the garden and pool. The property itself is a converted farmhouse situated in a very large garden/citrus grove which is a very pleasant place to relax and unwind. The house has huge amounts of character, retaining the big old wooden doors, shutters and heavy iron fittings while still having nice modern bathrooms and kitchen.

Despite the very secluded feel, the house is close to the main roads and motorway and makes a great base for exploring south eastern Sicily. The owner was extremely helpful and his local knowledge helped us to find some really nice beaches and restaurants which we would never have found otherwise. I would definitely recommend this place if you want to get away from it all in some very pleasant surroundings with lots to see and do nearby.

For me the highlights of this trip were:
1. Taking my morning shower in the outdoor shower surrounded by lemon trees (there are 2 showers indoors too)
2. Relaxing in the garden with a gin and tonic made with a slice of freshly picked lime
3. Fantastic daytrips to places like historic Syracusa (20mins away), Mt Etna ( 2hrs away) and some lovely local beaches.

“excellent”
Reviewed 29 May 2013 for a stay in May 2013

We had 6 nights here - and wish we had stayed longer. A quiet spot seemingly deep in the countryside yet within easy reach of the motorway and all the sights in this region - from Syracusa to Sickly and beyond. The old farmhouse has been nicely converted providing modern facilities but retaining its charm ( horse trough shelf in one bedroom and the old cooking range in the hall) in acres of fruit trees and with a massive patio and outdoor dining and BBQ.
Corrado was very helpful and we had great meals at the restaurants that he recommended.
