We booked here as my daughter married here a few years ago, notice was given of one guest being gluten free at time of booking. The tea cakes and sandwiches were brought out, no gluten free, had to ask for this. They arrived sometime later on a plain plate, no garnish or presentation unlike the non gluten free display. The young assistant was very charming and happy to help when we were first seated, but after that we had to ask for tea top up when someone appeared and pretty much left to our own devices. The sandwiches and cakes were average and nothing rocked our world. I think this could be so much more with care and attention given to the booking details, presentation and service. It does not reflect the image of the hotel sadly.

Thank you for taking the time to write your review.

I am sorry to read that there has been a breakdown in communication from the front of house team to the kitchen regarding the special dietry requirements. Please be assured that this has been discussed with the team.

Whilst the team will not always be in the room as wish to give you privacy whilst dining, there is always someone nearby to assist, but am sorry if this was not the case for yourself.

Best wishes

I booked an Afternoon Tea for Two via a Travelzoo offer as the hotel looked an interesting and historic venue. But I was disappointed with the hotel, which seems to be a 'Jack of all trades, but master of none' sort of a place. The Restaurant where the tea was served, was grand, but dull and rather hushed. The table we were seated at was scratched and, as mentioned elsewhere, the mismatched cups, saucers and plates looked out of place. They would have been quaint and charming in a Ye Olde Tea Rooms setting - but not in a Georgian Hotel. The sandwiches and cakes were adequate and the scones delicious. My partner asked for coffee, which arrived in a mug and not the cafetiere I would have expected in such an establishment. Service from the young staff in the Restaurant was good, but our arrival was marred as the Receptionist was on the phone and refused to make eye contact with us to acknowledge we were there! My feeling was that Afternoon Teas are an 'add-on' for the times when the Hotel has no conferences taking place. Our afternoon tea for two (with a glass of Prosecco) was half price and I was relieved I had not paid the full price of £60 for the experience.

Thank you for taking the time to write your review.

I am naturally disappointed to read some of your feedback.

Indeed the receptionist should have made eye contact to ensure you were greeted correctly whilst waiting, please be assured that this will be discussed.

We are in the process of making the necessary improvements to the restaurant and have since re stained the beautiful wooden tables. Further works will soon be taking place as under the new ownership of the hotel we are working our hardest to make the necessary changes.

We hope that you will come and pay us a visit again this summer and see all of the new changes taking place.

Best wishes

Had a couple of nights here for Mothers Day weekend and at the 3rd attempt they gave us a suitable room, a little frustrating.
The hotel is being renovated bit by bit (it needs it) and although the staff try very hard to please there is some way before it hits the target.
We had the Mothers Day lunch which was ok but the portion size was small and we left the dining room still a little hungry, some more veg would have been nice.

Thank you for your review.

I am sorry to read that you did not enjoy the room that was booked and provided, but am pleased to read that the team took their time to ensure that you were given a room of your liking.

As you rightly state, we are working hard on the renovations of the hotel, which has now seen the Mansion House bedrooms being completed. We will soon be starting the works to the Grange so we are working hard to ensure all areas of the estate are fully loved.

I am pleased to read that you enjoyed your Mothers Day lunch, and please be assured that if you require anything additional at the time that the team are on hand to help you have a wonderful experience.

Best wishes

Visited here for afternoon tea this past Friday. First I should say we were most impressed by the first rate service we received from all the staff. The afternoon tea itself was very good. The only exception amongst delicious finger sandwiches, scones and cakes was a chocolate disaster which had not set. We were though given some splendid mini chocolate eclairs to make up for this. However my wife was most appalled by the mixed collection of cups, saucers and plates (both china and pot) that was used to serve the afternoon tea. We were expecting an elegant and refined occasion. Alas the random collection of crockery that could have come as a job lot from Ebay or from a jumble sale really did not set the tone that we would have wished for so it is unlikely that we will go again. Maybe the new management can ditch the unnecessary quirkiness and raise the standard. JS Newbury March 2018

Thank you for taking the time to write your review.

I am sorry to read that you did not enjoy our beautiful crockery selection that was hand picked. As you rightly state, this is a delightful mismatch of crockery that add a very lovely feel we believe to the Afternoon Tea ambiance that is positively praised. I fully understand that as individuals we do not all like the same things in life, but please be fully assured that there is nothing 'ebay' about our crockery collection at all, and if viewed will see that it's a very fine collection indeed that it worthy of such a beautiful mansion house experience.

I am pleased to read that you enjoyed the afternoon team itself on the whole and that you were very well looked after by the team who gave your First Class service - thank you for this kind praise..

Please don't let crockery put you off from visiting again, the Mansion House experience is something that should most certainly be repeated many times when having something as fine and decadent as an English Afternoon Tea.

Last Christmas my wife and I were kindly given a voucher for afternoon tea at Warbrook House which included a glass of prosecco each. We booked to have it on her birthday in March. Unfortunately, we had an unexpected heavy snowfall the day before and were trapped at home. However, without any hesitation the young lady on reception allowed us to re-book for a few days later. We thought this very understanding and helpful service as the booking conditions very clearly stated that 48 hours notice would be required for a change. A very special "thank you" is deserved.
We were warmly welcomed when we did eventually arrive and were shown to a rather splendid dining room with a bow window overlooking the garden. The tea that soon followed was mouthwatering. There was a tasty and varied selection of finger sandwiches, dainty home made pastries and fruit and plain scones, still warm, served with cream and jam. There was a choice of teas and coffee and, of course, the fizz! It was all quite delicious, the china most attractive and the waiting staff very attentive. Just a pity that neither of us managed to finish it all!
Thank you Warbrook House team. What a wonderfully decadent way to spend an afternoon!
