“very nice place”

We have been to Lochleven before and consider it one of the most beautiful spots to visit. We loved the Seafood cottage, and the adjacent Seafood Cafe is a must! great meal right from the sea.

The only problem was that, apparently due to heavy rain and washing the surrounding sheep wasted into the water system, the water was contaminated, meaning we couldn't drink it, make coffee from it, or brush our teeth, and we had to be careful taking showers. Although the caretakers brought us bottled water, this was a real inconvenience. However, it only barely shadowed what is otherwise a beautiful site, lovely cottage, and great 2 days for us.

Management Response
10 Sep 2014
Thank you for your feedback and comments. Unfortunately I think there may be some confusion regarding our water supply. Our source is a natural spring located in a protected part of the hill behind us. The water source is routinely treated and purified via our filtration system housed within the cottage. As this source is private it is tested regularly by the local council to ensure it is safe for consumption. The water was tested before your arrival and highlighted that treatment was required. We had experienced heavy rainfall which does affect the water and may have been a contributing factor to the test failure. Routine maintenance was carried out at the source and within our filtration system and the council retested our water and approved our new samples. We are sorry for the inconvenience that this caused you and your family during your stay. We hoped that our provision of bottled water as an alternative cold water supply would have prevented any distress. The safety of our guests is paramount and we would never compromise this.

“Stunning rental, stunning views”
Reviewed 19 August 2014 for a stay in August 2014

Property is modern, based on IKEA chalet. Light and spacious, beds v comfy, kitchen well stocked, good car parking. It is out of the way, but there is a good stocked Coop 10 mins away by car. Need a car. Fort William is 40 mins away. We enjoyed family card games in the evenings. The Scottish midges were not too bad at the location. Directions could have stated to ignore precisely the post code but drive on a further 10 mins to find the chalet on the left of the road, We took our kayak on to the lake across the road. Communication with owners was very good, and they are aware of some improvement suggestions: TV, wifi, tumble drier. We recommend canyoning near a place near Fort William, and the ice wall and climbing centre at Kinlochleven. Good base for Fort William and for climbing Ben Nevis

“Awesome Self-Catering Cottage a Stone's Throw from a Scottish Loch”

we were a group of 7 and stayed at the cottage for 4 nights. the building is nicely furnished, with a fully-equipped kitchen (cooking equipment, cutlery and plates, toaster, coffeemaker, etc. - whatever you need to prepare breakfast or full dinner meals). the rooms are very neat and tidy, as are the two bathrooms (one on the top floor, one on the bottom floor). just next to the cottage is a seafood restaurant (which looks very nice and had a lot of visitors; however, we did not go there, as it is a bit pricy). there is also a nice patio with a nice view over the adjacent loch (provided the insects are not too aggressive ;-)). shopping opportunities are a 10 min drive away (e.g., in Kinlochleven).

one drawback (or advantage, depending on your point of view): there is no Wifi, and mobile internet via cell is not working either - this is good if you want to force yourself to not read emails, etc.; but it is bad in terms of travel preparation and tour planning, etc., for which internet comes in quite handy.

overall, we enjoyed our stay very much, and I can highly recommend the cottage to anyone who is looking for a nice time in that area of Scotland.

“A lovely cottage in a fantastic location”

Very remote location, local shops a little drive away. But ideal for a relaxing break with some fantastic local scenery and good walks around especially Glencoe and Ben Nevis.
