“Price Mugged”
Reviewed 4 June 2012

Upon staying here for one night for our friends wedding, we were informed we could receive a "special rate room" for £95 per double room per night with breakfast included. We were shocked to find that the rooms normally only cost £75 per double room per night (without breakfast) as per their own website, which meant we were paying an extra £20 just for the breakfast for 2 people, thus leaving us confused as to what "special rate" we were receiving. The breakfast certainly did not cost £20. It was buffet style with help yourself food which was kept in re-heated containers and as recently mentioned in another review - it was like a canteen. We can appreciate comments from the manager in other reviews however when you are paying £20 for breakfast it needs to be freshly prepared and to the customers needs. As for the room, it was an average stay to say the least. It certainly did not reflect the price. The room was very dated, bathroom was clean however could have done with a whole new suite. The pillows were very hard and the room did not reflect a stay in a 'Manor Hotel'. After the wedding was over and we headed to our room, we passed by a finished room service tray with leftover food outside someones door. We were then shocked to still see it there when we left our room at 10am the following morning, even though the cleaners were nearby and had started cleaning other rooms down the corridor. This left a stench in the corridor and was unpleasant as we had to walk past it several times. The wedding itself was beautiful and set in lovely grounds however we did not feel the room or breakfast warranted £95 for the night.

We thought our room & bathroom looked very tired ,the radiator needed a paint (underneath was rusty) the edges of the floor tiles were scruffy ,the sink and taps had lime scale and the overflow was full of gunge, also the furniture was very knocked about and tired.
The bar staff were missing the night before the wedding,we had trudge through rooms and corridors to the reception to find someone.
There was not enough food the first morning at breakfast, people came down before 9.30am to find it all gone.
The morning after the wedding reception, there was plenty of food at breakfast.

There are definately not enough signs in and around the Hotel. When we arrived we headed straight to the front door and no reception!! we finally found the reception along corridors and rooms. It would help if there was a sign outside on the wall, pointing to where the Reception is??
We are suprised to see on the website that the hotel was re-furbished in 2011?
Having said the above...........the hallway to our room was nice, but again no signs to say where our room was, we ended up upstairs, we finally found we had to go through a door that looked insignificant and said Fire Exit. The Bar menue was fine on Friday evening ,once the official staff arrived.
The reception room for the wedding was really really lovely, we couldn`t have wanted more, The staff were very kind, friendly, helpful and professional, with ample staff waiting on the tables at the wedding reception.I am letting you know the faults to help you, with these faults,we still had a great time with all the family on a Special day.Would we stay there again,? no.

I am glad you enjoyed the wedding at the hotel! The hotel is a great wedding venue with fantastic refurbished function rooms.

I will have a look into fans for the bedrooms if the weather continues to be as good as that weekend. The British weather hasn't been particularly great so far this year, but I will have a look back into this later in the summer when the sun comes out!

I hope to see you back at the hotel again soon!

I spent two nights here with my wife in order to see National Trust areas, and I had a great time. The rooms are spacious, and as the manager said on an earlier review, the TVs have been updated. The breakfast menu must have been improved considerably, because my full English (s) were delcious and without any bells and whistles. My dinner, though not part of a huge menu, was good, and I didn't have lunch there.

The staff was kind, though finely-stretched, and the views picturesque. I honestly can't see what the fuss is about!

Room is ok, staff ok, limited selection at the bar. Food was reasonable. Its a bit out the way and don't believe the website which says you get Sky Sports in your room, you get the 5 terrestrial channels plus Sky One. No BBC 3 etc. You do get free wifi, which is reasonably reliable.
