Himmelstigen to Trolltunga Day Tour

Owner description: For the 2017 season Trolltunga Active has decided to disassemble the Via Ferrata route called "Himmelstigen". The decision is a follow-up of the annual check on the quality of the mountain, in relation to damages during the winter due to water, ice, vegetation, and how these factors have impacted on the geological conditions in the area. Trolltunga Active set safety as the main factor for all tours and activities, and has decided to shut the Via Ferrata as a guide tour, due to how the the mountain has become insecure during the winter. Via the Ferrata trail is under dismantling. A new Himmelstigen Via Ferrata to Trolltunga are already planned, will be constructed during the summer, and will be opened for the 2018 season.

This route is not easy, but it is worth every step. Our guide (Daniel) led a group of 8. He was very safety-conscious and got all of us up and down without any problems. He had us take frequent food and water breaks and educated us about the flora and geology of the area. The bike ride, the hike up the ravine and the climb up the ladders were breathtaking (literally and figuratively), and Trolltunga itself made it all worthwhile. The younger members of our group even cooled off on the way down in a swimming hole under a waterfall... and I mean REALLY cooled off. Start-to-finish it was over 11 hours, but we would all do it again if we had the chance.

Absolutely gorgeous area of Norway and we are happy we attempted this route to Trolltunga. Our guide was super friendly and accommodating about the varying athletic ability levels in our group. We started with a 10k biking trip; be ready to bike a lot uphill over rocky terrain. I was not ready for this since I live in the city and fear riding a bike. Then there was a very steep ascent up rocks to the via Ferrata. This was doable on the way up but tricky coming down after the rain started. Definitely make sure you are in shape to do this as well. I am in decent physical condition but not nearly as much as the older Norwegian men in our group who were hopping up the boulders at lightning speed.

We climbed a bit of the Via Ferrata but then had to go back down. We are happy the guide made the decision since we heard boulders tumbling off the mountain nearby. The company reimbursed us 50% since the weather failed us. They also gave the option to reschedule for the next day free of cost. My advice would be to spend many days in this area of Norway and plan your trip around the weather if you really want to see Trolltunga since it typically rains a lot in the mountains.

We found reaching the meeting point very difficult because there is no public transport before 9am, though fortunately we could get a lift from a couple at our hostel who were heading that way. The beginning of our trip was amazing, this is the most beautiful part of the world. Very tough hiking in a boulder field, there is no path, and it is great fun. Lovely photos. Unfortunately just as we reached the via ferrata section the weather turned, forcing us to cancel the rest of our trip and return to base. Our guide was fantastic at getting us all down safely, though in the rain it was tricky! The company was brilliant about our misfortune with the weather, and offered us either the full tour again the next day or a 50% refund. In the end we still had a fantastic day. If you are considering this, be aware that it is very physically demanding, and make sure you have lots and lots of layers, as well as very sturdy shoes.

Bike,Hike and Climb the brochure reads...Oh Lordy you have no idea. This was the hardest day of my life. And so enjoyable. If its action and adventure youre looking for then here it is. My guide was Tao. A delightful, intelligent social young man with a passion for what he does. I felt safe and secure at all times, even at the top of a 200m cliff face standing on a ladder rung.
So first you bike 7k along a hard pebbly bumpy road up and down hills. Then you go climb boulders for 2.5 hours uphill, then you climb a cliff face for another 2 hours with carabeners and harness and then you walk 1k to the Iconic Trolltunga. Wow . Incredible. At this point yr exhausted but you know you've gotta do it all in reverse to get back down.
Only take a small water bottle as you refill in the streams as you go. My water bottle was way to large and heavy. Take a medium sized backpack as you have to carry your own harness. wear good hiking shoes and clothes. Eat a banana first thing in the morning to prevent cramping. Pack lunch incl chocolate.youll need the sugar hit.
This is a must do. Ive never done anything like this before It was amazing.

Maybe tiring but worth the wet shoes and aches! The view from the biking route and the via ferrata is awesome. And of course. The trolltunga itself. Gazing forth at the lake. You can get your own photo... and the queue isn't too long! The guides were very professional and helpful. Just have your own transport . Taxi cost a bomb
