Ta' Philip offers great service and delicious cuisine. If you're in Gozo you have to try this place it's 10mins away from the ferry by walk and 2mins away by car.

Went for father's day with my family. Excellent service and great food. Despite it being an occasion we did not wait long for our food. Recommended for anyone who visits Gozo.

We had the antipasto for two and the slow cooked grouper (mérou). The wine also came recommended: Marsamena 2009 from the owner's brother's vineyard. Barrel (new French oak) aged Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Carménère, Serkuzan and Syrah. The sorbets are second to none.

This is one of a number of reviews I’ve written, covering a 3-night stay in Gozo with my family. Check out my profile to read reviews of the other places we’ve visited.

We visited Ta’ Philip on our final night in Gozo. After having been to two other great restaurants, Ta’ Philip had some pretty big shoes to fill, but it definitely did not disappoint.

The owner (Philip) practically rebuilt the whole place from the ground up; and a fantastic job he did of it as well. The decor is simple but elegant, with some beautiful works of art and photography adorning the walls. The lighting is subdued to give just the perfect atmosphere.

The menu focuses mostly on traditional Maltese, Gozitan and Mediterranean cuisine. At the beginning of our meal, we were brought some bruschetta, marinated beans, rock salt, olives and a lovely tomato paste with a pleasantly tangy taste.

For starters we had the parmigiana, which comes presented in its own antique-style recipient. The aubergines were perfectly crisped at the edges, and the filling was fantastic. For mains we had a lovely cut of USDA rib-eye, which was cooked to medium-rare as per our request. The cut was juicy and tender, and had some lovely marbling throughout. We chose not to have any sauces, preferring to enjoy the unaltered taste of the beef.

The desserts were probably our favourite throughout our stay in Gozo. I had the chocolate fondant, while my partner had the “mqaret” (date fritters). Both came served with ice-cream and were absolutely delightful.

The wine list includes a nice selection of IGT and DOK Gozitan wines. You should definitely try the Marsamena range — fantastic wines and great value for money. We had the Marsamena red, which is a multi-varietal with a really interesting blend of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Carménère, Serkuzan and Syrah.

Staff were pleasant and attentive, and we felt well-taken care of.

Ta’ Philip is definitely worth visiting.

I have been here many times and always the food was out of this world. Special compliments to Victor the chef and to his team who support him. The pappardelle with rabbit liver are amazing and my favourites. The rest of the food, be it meat or fish is always cooked to perfection. The ambient is warm & the staff make you feel at home straight away. Well done Philip. The consistency of your service is evidence of your dedication and experience. I certainly recommend Ta Philip. In my opinion it stands out and is the best in the Maltese Islands.
