This was our second visit after staying at the Meritus last year.This time we travelled without our son and stayed for eight days.Most of the staff were still there and were extremely welcoming and helpfull.The staff were very efficient and acted promptly when we experienced a small electrical fault.The food was of exeptional quality and value,including the roomservice.
We ate at many other restaurants in Pantai Chenang and found it very relaxing not to have to venture out of the hotel for meals as they were so nice.The recent refurbishment of the restaurant and foyer is very impressive.We already had a sneak preview of the rooms currently being renovated and they promise to be sensational We have already earmarked the room we would like to stay in on our next visit.We realized even more that the Meritus is in a great position to explore Langkawi and the many restaurants,shopping and to do tours after staying at other hotels in Langkawi.
We definetely would like to come back in the near future and we thank all the staff who made our stay so memorable.(a nice touch was the staff singing happy birthday at breakfast and presenting me with a beautiful cake!)

We recently took a holiday with friends to the Pelangi beach resort.
After reading some of the reviews we were a little apprehensive.
From the moment we arrived and were ushered into the lobby for a welcome drink until the moment we checked out the staff couldn't do enough for us.
It was my 50th birthday and on the morning of my birthday at breakfast our table and chairs were adorned with balloons and sashes. The staff brought me a birthday cake and sang to me (lovely albeit a little embarrassing!)
That evening another beautifully decorated cake was sent up to my room.
We stayed in 1709 and our friends 1708 and we were happy with our rooms with a view of the sea from the balcony, 2 minutes from the lobby.
I must agree that the beach was littered with discarded plastic water bottles and this should be addressed but in our opinion the rest of the hotel was kept very clean.
Renovations were going on which limited the choice of the hotels eateries but that probably reflects in the comparative price with Casa Del Mar next door.
I have never met such friendly people as the people in Langkawi (especially the staff at the Pelangi.)
We never experienced the negative comments of some reviewers and will definitely be back in the near future.

We took the family offer from their website, after a friend speak highly about Langkawi and Meritus Pelangi Beach Resort. From outside the resort looked very grande and nice. but once we got in the room.... it was quite disapointing. The room very run down and quite damp. Need to work on their cleanness, found many stains on their amenities and even bed....
The distance from the room to the main lobby quite far and need more lighting at night.
The staffs are very helpfull and attend our needs. I agree with some of the travelers, the picture on the website looks great and nice, top notch meritus, but the reality is quite far from the picture. The good thing about the package, we got to enjoy the meritus club! Free internet and drinks and loaded with snacks.

Room Tip: Beach front units.

We booked two rooms for four adults and two children (2 year old and 6 months old).

Firstly, we were given rooms right at the end of the resort, which takes at least 15 minutes to walk from the main lobby, which isn't great when you get back from an outing with two tired, grumpy kids. One afternoon, we spent about 40 minutes waiting for a buggy to take us back (we were told a 10-15 minutes wait). When we complained to reception, they told us that actually, the buggies were used to transport luggages and not guests (although I have seen guests being transported using the vehicles). At that point, we asked to change rooms closer to the lobby.

Like a previous reviewer, they said they were fully booked and could only offer a room behind the lobby, which could get noisy at night because of the live band. We couldn't believe that and asked if they could find somewhere else, they eventually said there were rooms free literally a two minute walk from the lobby.

I know they are undergoing renovation, but the rooms are dark and dated. Furniture is not in a good condition, most of it looking worn. There were ants crawling in the bathroom sink area in our first rooms and ants crawling around the TV area, where it had obviously not been cleaned properly.

However, on the plus side, both it's pools are fantastic and suitable for young children; it's right on the beach, so we could watch the beautiful sunset; room service food was fanatstic and delivered by a really pleasant, polite gentleman; location is great and not as remote as some of the other resorts; local restaurants right on your door steps.

The photos looked great, some of the reviews looked great, but we chose to ignore the not so good ones!! Big mistake!!

The grounds were very well cared for and swept and weeded and pruned daily. The 2 pools were also well maintained and clean, however thats was where attention to detail stopped. It was the only hotel on the whole beach that was littered with bottles and rubbish and no one cleaning it up. I went to the beach daily and never saw a Meritus member of staff cleaning the beach, yet the other hotels had at least 2 people on the beach all the time.

It is well documented in other reviews about the poor/shabby looking rooms, and yes a refurb is in progress, but for a hotel claiming to be 5 star they are greatly mistaken. Yes a 'cleaner' came in daily and made the bed, unfortunately she didn't clean! The dirt on the floors, walls and bathroom stayed with us the whole 10 days we where there. If we where lucky she did sweep the bathroom floor. The bathroom area always smelt musty and damp and there was never a fresh clean smell of beach or any other cleaning agent, we only knew she had been in because the bed was made!
Although we found it uncomfortable and unpleasent, the cockroach seemed very at home and judging by his size he was thriving! The centipede at 4 inches long and black and shiney took refuge from the grime by insisting on sharing our bed and when the spiders decided that the cob webs in the rafters where now too dusty even for them, they too decided to share our bed, luckily for us it didn't all happen in one night, but over the course of a week! It got to the stage that I was taking the quilt and pillows off the bed to shake them, before I could get in!
The aircon dripped water on the floor and we had to mop up with the towels. We did report it and waited 40 mins for someone to come and repair it, they did and took the towels away and didn't replace them....and when the aircon in the room down stairs was on the unit outside vibrated through the building.
As is usual for a hotel all they want is your money and the Meritus did not disappoint in this. Everything was hideously over priced and it was cheaper to walk down the beach to the other hotels with a clean beach, for reasonabily priced drinks and food, or walk down the main street for a huge array of shops and resturants, that cater for all tastes and budgets.
I found the staff 'standoffish' and got the impression that they really didn't care one way or the other. I think the biggest clue that they didn't care was when we checked out, not one person asked if we had had a nice/pleasent, stay/holiday.
I can see now exactly why the Meritus was half empty, it was truely the worst hotel have ever been to, so bad I have written a review for the first time in my life, so please be warned, it may turn out to be a holiday of a lifetime, but not quite for the resons you expect it to be!!!!

Room Tip: Dont bother! Just use another hotel.....
