Straight off the boat and needed food for everyone. Sat down and ordered - although more expensive than a similar place on the mainland, you would expect it being on an island.

We ordered Calamari, Squid, Tuna Salad, chicken and lasagne and apart from the microwave lasagne (which was terrible and my son who loves all lasagne wouldn't eat it) it wasn't bad.

We were asked if we wanted bread and said yes (knowing that some places sometimes charge a small amount for bread) and got four bread rolls and a very poor attempt at aioli.

We later found out on bill inspection that we were charged per person for eating bread including my 20 month old who had a couple of bites of my wife's bread. We were charged just under €10 for 5 people eating 4 bread rolls. Also charged €3 a coke. Although the waitress was very friendly she could not cope with the influx of people arriving to eat. After paying we had to hunt the waitress down to get the change. We of course came across much nicer places in the town that we really should have gone and looked at first before sitting down at the row of restaurants on the beach.

Tabarca makes for a nice excursuion from Alicante. The old town is small, but has character. But the most enjoyable thing to do, for me, seems to have lunch by the sea. As you come out of the harbour and walk to the left, there is a row of restaurants, which give a very touristy impression. I picked the last in the row, Amparin. The food is quite good and the view to sea and beach as well as the old town is very nice. The service is friendly and fun. Three waitresses introduced themselves as Menci,Arantxa, and Mari. Their good nature easily added to the enjoyment of the place

Arrived at the Island today, after a lovely explore across the Island we decided to eat at Restaurante Amparin. After a warm welcome, everything else was very disappointing. The service was very poor. We ordered 2 menu of the day - these were ok - salad, fried fish, paella, dessert. Good value and acceptable quality. We ordered 2 spaghetti bolognese and special salad. The pasta was very cold and was like cold tomato sauce poured over. Salad never arrived until we asked repeatedly. We also also requested mayonnaise and we were ignored. When we tried to order more drinks, we were rudely spoken too. We stay in Santa Pola several times every year and we will not visit this restaurant next time we go over to the Island.

12 euros each and we had, salad and bread followed by calamari and sardines , then sea food paella, desert and small drink. You couldn't go wrong and the food was really nice. Great location with fantastic views.

We ordered the 9€ lasgne, what a horrible mistake, it was microwave-style readylasagne that you can get from any store for a euro or two.
We told the waitress it was uneatable and wanted to change our order but she misunderstood us and brought out two new portions a little bit trimmed with bolognese-sauce on top... To get two times two sets of lasagne that really looked like it just been in the microwave took about 1h 30minutes of exploring-time of the island.
Finally we got to change our order and split a salad, which was nothing special.
First time we've ever had to return a food to the kitchen because it's uneatable.
