The best of the best when it comes to luxury with kids

This place is pure bliss if you are looking for a family get away and want to make sure that your kids are treated like royalty too ;-). Most places in Germany - even if they claim to be kid friendly - are really not. The Grand Hotel is. It starts with you entering the lobby and checking in and the little ones have a ladder that they can step up on to be level with the check in desk AND they get sweets ;-). The rooms are great (we had a family suite in the spa building), very quiet and most have sea views. All dining options are super delicious, the spa, sauna and pool are great... There really isn't much to not like about this place... There even is a kids villa (3 floors) where the little ones can play and have fun - eat lunch & dinner... And since it is Heiligendamm - it is right by the beach and you will fall asleep to the sound of the waves...
Nelson Bar is very comfy - we enjoyed a Chinese Fondue which was great. Wine/champagne etc selection is excellent... From the moment we arrived until we left - we felt special and almost like family. We will definitely be back. Our only remark would be that the temperature in the rooms should be warmer - it is set to 20 degrees (Celsius) and you can only add 3 degrees max by operating the switches... It felt much colder then 20/23 and it wasn't even that freezing outside...

A perfect place in northern germany to spend a romantic or funny weekend by going to the beach to read, walk down the shore, disconnect from the rest of the world and spend a day in their amazing spa. It feels like going back in time, no rush, no stress, noble environment and "old-school" habits. Two restaurants for fine dining and a great bar. Supernice and friendly service. Big rooms. Comfy beds. What one needs else ?

My daughter, German son-in-law, grandchildren ages 6 and 8, and I spent a delightful three days in this very lovely hotel. We stayed in a suite with living room, two very spacious bedrooms and a connecting terrace, all with beautiful views of the sea. Upon arriving in our room we were greeted with a bottle of wine and two children's plates with their names in chocolate and an assortment of candies and fruit. (We took the wine to the rooftop terrace later that day to enjoy). During the course of our stay we dined in all the restaurants and found them to be quite good. The breakfast buffet, as others have mentioned, offered everything you could possible want--the herring and the muesli bar were particularly delicious. We thought the formal restaurant was exceptional--the wine selections to accompany the various courses were spot on. We enjoyed chatting with the personable chef later in the evening.
The adults rented the sturdy bikes for four hours and enjoyed the Baltic landscape as well as the Bad Doberan Munster. The children enjoyed their stay in the house designed for them. I was surprised there were not more children in the house as there were many at the hotel during our visit. Unlike a recent reviewer, I thought the children were well
behaved. However, my daughter had informed me that when she took her children to the pool late one afternoon there were at least forty five other children in the pool and it was rather rowdy.
The hotel personnel were responsive to our requests even producing a chess board for our grandchildren to use during our stay. The children also enjoyed spending quiet time in the little library with a section just for them. (As my daughter commented, in an American hotel, this space would have been a gift shop--how refreshing to have it be a library).
Although the hotel appeared to be full, we found ourselves alone in the bar one night, listening to the piano player.
We loved our stay, from start to finish

Room Tip: Request a sea view

A "Grand Hotel" with top level prices is expected to be a cut above even other 5 star hotels. Grand Hotel Heiigendamm offers an attractive package in pleasant surroundings. It could in fact offer an outstanding experience. Unfortunately it misses this mark. Lacking are the details which define a truly great hotel. "Deluxe" rooms are small and lack space for baggage etc. The beds are old and hard, and clearly do not meet the standards of updated 5 star hotels. Both restaurants and services are understaffed. While positive and friendly, the staff seem not to have been trained to offer more than the most basic of information. A hotel guide promises a hiking and biking map. Concierge had never heard of such a thing. Restaurants offer good, but not great meals. Overworked staff miss details. For us, one dinner in the restaurant and another in the sushi restaurant turned out to be disasters. In other words, the place shouts cost cutting from every corner. A bottle of flat water is €9.50. Parking is €25.00 per night. Each room receives only one small piece of soap. After eating the three apples which are offered upon arrival, no new ones are supplied. The breakfast buffet is ample, but without imagination. Made-to-order dishes such as omelettes are greasy and tough. Etc.Etc. Judging that against the beautiful setting still produces a positive experience But if one pays Grand Hotel prices, one expects Grand Hotel treatment. At Heiligendamm, this is unfortunately not the case.

Room Tip: Deluxe rooms are small. Check view and space.

This hotel consists of several buildings. The white sand beach with the comfy small beach "boxes" are so nice. The rooms are really nice decorated and has big bathrooms.
We had some issues with a bad smell in the kids room but the staff arranged an another room after we complained in a nice manner (I hate when people complain in an angry way). Thumbs up for compensating us the second night.
The breakfast is awesome with everything you can imagine. Beautiful sitting area outside and inside.
We had dinner there as well and it was really good.
But the only negative thing at this hotel was the kids! We have two kids of our own but we have always taught them to behave at hotels and restaurants since they were younger (now in their teens). The other kids ran and screamed like crazy during dinner time around the restaurant and hotel corridors. And the parents just seemed to drink their wine and couldn't cared less. Even our kids were amazed and wanted the kids to shut up. I understand that kids play and have fun but this was like sugar high crazy yelling wild monkeys.
It felt like we were at a all-inclusive charter hotel in Gran Canaria not at a 5 star luxury hotel.
We were at the pool and there were just kids and barely no parents looking after their small kids (some were like 7-8 years old). No pool guard. Just a bartender who made drinks. So people let their kids swim unattended! And you can imagine the noice ! The kids had a volleyball in the pool and it almost hit us.
I'm surprised that the hotel staff allows this .
I had a facial treatment . It was really nice but it's quite expensive . You can get it for half price in Sweden at a good place.
I would go this hotel again IF people could see to their children and not let them go bananas.
The food is a little over priced but good. So there two things brings my rating down ...
