“Book it but not on the dates we want for our return visit!”

First and foremost, Sue is a great host. She made us very welcome from the moment we arrived. She lives in the beautifully renovated farmhouse and she has finished Le Pigeonnier to an equally high standard. Inside, there is a well furnished kitchen with everything you will need if you want to dine in. The bathroom, also on the ground floor, is small but perfectly formed with a very satisfactory shower. The lovely wooden staircase leads up to a generous sized bedroom with lots of space for all one's holiday paraphernalia and a large, comfortable double bed. The Wifi connection is very good - better than in the main house apparently - and is free. Outside, there is a large patio, recently and tastefully repaved. There is a table and chairs for outside dining and two recliners with a parasol. The view is to die for. Le Pigeonnier looks down out over farmland, with Sue's adorable sheep and beyond these, her neighbour's cattle towards the Dordogne itself. Sue also keeps hens (but no cockerel to wake you up at 5 am!) and guinea fowl. There is a boules area which we thoroughly enjoyed and badminton is also available. The swimming pool is a good size, clean and attractive. Unfortunately, I can't comment on the swimming experience as due to rather unseasonal weather we didn't have any!

The location is great for seeing the main sights of the area - Castlenaud is about 25 minutes away, Lascaux no more 45 minutes. There are loads of lovely villages and small towns in the immediate area - our favourites were Domme, Limeuil, Sarlat, Beynac and La Roque Gageac. There are also some great gardens, especially le Jardins d'Eyrignac. If you are into French markets, you will think you have died and gone to Heaven. You could literally go to one every day of the week. Our favourite eating place was the hotel in the nearby Siorac (Sue will give you details) - we went three times!

My only reservation about Le Pigeonnier is that I would not recommend it to anyone of a certain age with mobility problems, simply because the bathroom is downstairs and the stairs quite steep which could make any nighttime calls of nature a bit hazardous. Otherwise, I would urge you to go but hands off the dates we want for our next visit!

“Fantastic holiday”

From the moment we arrived Sue made us very welcome - a complimentary bottle of wine and nibbles got us started! The property is full of character and is extremely comfortable with all the amenities you would expect. The views across the Dordogne valley are magnificent and every evening we sat on the terrace taking in the spectacle.
The pool is a good size and is not overlooked. The boule area is also plenty big enough for serious competition!.
Le Pigeonnaire is well positioned for touring and cycling in the Dordogne region.
We had a fabulously relaxing and enjoyable two weeks - thank you Sue!
