We had a wonderful family holiday staying at La Foschia d'Estate with our 2 teenage boys. It is a lovely place to stay and explore the best of the Abruzzo region.
The house is set in a beautiful hilltop location with fantastic views of the Gran Sasso mountains and the hills that flow down to the coast. The house is very comfortable and spacious with plenty of terrace areas in front and out the back. There is a large garden to relax in and a table tennis table for some fun games.
The nearest beach is the one at the coastal town of Pineto and is only about a 30 minute drive. The beach is a lovely sandy beach and it has a long stretch of pine trees just behind it that offer some welcome shade from the summer sun. Try the area between Marco's lido and the boat hire school, it's usually quiet with plenty of space.
You can also easily get into the mountains for some treking, climbing ot mountain biking. We walked through the Salinello Gorge and visited the Prati di Tivo where they have everything you'll need for some summer mountain fun on and around the highest peaks of the Gran Sasso.
The house is just outside a small village that has a bar and a smal shop but it's also near to a few towns where you can find all the amenities you need as well as restaurants, bars and shops. It does mean a short drive to get to places and you do have to be careful on the tight winding hill roads but that's all part of the Italian experience!
The house is well equipped with 2 double bedrooms with en suites and a triple room for kids to share. The living room has one of the cosiest sofas you will ever use and there's satelitte TV and a DVD player. You can dine in the kitchen, the dining room (part of the living room) or outisde on one of the terraces. There's a well equipped kitchen and a small BBQ outside. There's also a utility room to keep on top of your washing. It's a real home from home.
We really enjoyed our time at the house and would certainly use it again.
