“Our two week stay at Casale San Bartolomeo”
Reviewed 25 September 2011

We found Casale San Bartolomeo through “Owners Direct” and then checked it out further on “Trip Advisor”. Communications with Gabriele were prompt and made very easy by his fluency in many languages, including English. Traveling with another couple for two weeks in the Umbria area, we all wanted a quiet retreat to return to each day and this casale worked out perfectly with its refreshing pool and comfortable lounge and bedroom areas welcoming us. Over the course of our stay, Gabriele prepared four delicious dinners for us, using fresh local ingredients, including wine with each meal – a great deal at 20 Euros pp. We were introduced to truffles and wild boar and were pleasantly surprised by their flavour. The tables were laid beautifully for breakfasts and dinners and it was wonderful to be there in September to be able to dine alfresco on the covered patio. A number of times we shopped locally and brought back picnics to eat by the pool and Anna or Gabriele would run out with napkins and placemats to make it feel quite elegant. When asked, they also helped us with our daily planning, suggesting routes, sights to see, and places to eat. They were very generous with their time, despite the fact that they are raising two sweet little girls, Giulia and Giorgia. Gabriele is originally from Rome and Anna from Florence, so they were particularly helpful for our visits to these large cities. They were always there to see us off or welcome us home, but respected our privacy as well. We would not hesitate to recommend Casale San Bartolomeo.

Room Tip: Mansfield Park overlooks the pool and has lovely views of the hills and sunsets.

In August 2011, we stayed for 6 nights in Casale.Me, my wife and 2 children (one of them still a baby).
On the evening of our arrival, we had dinner at Casale San Bartolomeo. The food was
excellent, every night Gabriele prepared a typical Umbrian dish for us, with ingredients
fresh from the market.
The experience was so good that we ended up eating every evening at the Casale.
Having dinner on the terrace while watching the Umbrian sunset is amazing. The villa lies on the top of a hill in a peaceful setting (quite an adventure to reach it by car) and offers great views on the countryside.
For our daughter (5 year old) Gabriele also prepared a nice "children" meal, which she
loved.
The rooms are very clean (cleaned every day) but no airco so it can get quite hot in high
season.
This was our first B&B experience ever and it was a very good one.I think this is mostly
because of the hospitality of Gabriele and his family. Such friendly people! My daughter had the time of her life playing with the girls and everyone made us feel like home.
Gabriele and Anna also gave us valuable advice about which places to visit and where to eat.
Every important city in Umbria (Todi,Orvieto,Assisi,Gubbio,Perugia) is less then an hour
driving from the villa, so that makes it an excellent base for exploring Umbria.
The garden & pool were also very clean and there are plenty of sun beds and chairs available.
One last thing I want to mention is that while we were staying at the Casale, our car broke down during one of our day trips and I can't thank Gabriele enough for helping us.
Thanks again Gabriele, Anna, Giorgia & Giulia!

My wife and I recently stayed at the Casale San Bartolomeo. From the day when we contacted the owner, Gabriele, we were impressed with his prompt responses, helpful travel information, and a willingness to go above and beyond. The Casale has beautiful grounds, and is located on a quiet lot accessed by a long driveway. From our window, we saw Umbria's hills, farm houses, vineyards, and olive groves. Upon request, Gabriele makes dinners for his guests. After our first dinner, we were convinced that he is by far one of the best chefs we have met. We ended up having him cooking for us three more evenings. His wonderful wife Anna and two beautiful children all live on the ground level of the house. The whole place gave us the feeling of being at home. We also liked the central location of the Casale. Within less than one hour's drive, one can reach great historical hill top towns like Assisi, Orvieto, Todi, Bevagna, Trevi, Montefalco, etc. Gabriele helped us to select our daily excursions, including sights to see and places to eat. For sure, we will return there before too long!

When we FINALLY found this place (off the beaten path is an understatement), I knew we were onto something as the chic, stylish Anna bounds out of her SUV ahead of us carrying a huge bunch of fresh flowers for our room. Every element of this lovely stone farmhouse was well-designed; we enjoyed the pool after a flight and long drive... The room was beautiful, spacious and relaxing. Gabriele helped us plan a great itinerary for four days of castles, small villages, quiant towns, and beautiful cathedrals. The area is so lovely, and it was so nice to return to this agriturismo at the end of the day. The photos do not do it justice! It's truly magnificent!

Within an hour's drive to many beautiful and historical hill towns of Umbria, Casale San Bartlomeo is ideally located off a country road outside of Marciano, accessible by a long private drive way. Unlike its neighboring province of Tuscany (Cortona is about an hour away), Umbria is a less traveled destination, thus much quieter. It is also the only land locked province in Italy. If you are longing for leisure days roaming around rolling hills, eating savory pasta in black truffle sauce, and tasting decadent Sargrentino and Orvieto Classico wines, this is your place to go.

Casale San Bartolomeo is a family owned and operated bed and breakfast in a restored old farm house. When guests arrive, they instantly feel right at home. The family live in the same house on the ground floor. Gabriele and his wife Anna have two beautiful daughters. The guest rooms are on the second floor, all with en-suite private bathroom. All rooms have gorgeous Umbria countryside views. Upon request, Gabriele, a professionally trained chef, will cook special dinners for the guests. During our week long stay, we asked Gabriele to cook for us in a total of four evenings because no restaurants nearby could have beat his dishes!

Through our stay, Gabriele and Anna not only gave us ideas of where to visit, but also taught us Italian culture and customs. By the time we departed, we felt that we were leaving friends. We know for sure that we will return to San Bartolomeo many times in the future.
