Owner description: In 2005 a group of speleologues leaded by Mr Michele Parisi, discovers and makes know to people tunnels, cisterns, aqueducts, cells, rocky churches, barns, old furnaces hidden in meanders placed under the city centre. In this suggestive world they discovered great towers and ruins of old city walls. It is very interesting to admire the historical cells of the Ducal Palace (the house in which pope Benedict XIII was born), the cell placed under the seat of Gravina Souterrain, the cells of Amato Palace.

Four yrs. ago, our best friend came to visit us in Gravina, from the United States of America. This was our first time visiting Gravina Sotterranea, " The Underground Gravina" was spectacular, adventure, fun, exploring to look around. The whole entire place looked unbelivable as you living another city, a lot of history that what makes it so beautiful. All of us loved it!!!

Didn't know what to expect when we went, hidden in a side street, but opened up into a wonderful 2 hour trip under and around the town. Excellent guide, only young but very knowledgable. There's a surprise story around every corner. I was fascinated by the aquedotto too and the history on the walk on the way there. It was a ridiculously hot day and could've been exhausting to traipse from one site to another but I was so intrigued and excited to see the next spot that I barely felt the heat. It's such a shame it's not publicised more or given more funding as its really incredible. I have since visited Napoli and Lecce sotterranee and I still rave about this one being the best.

We spent a couple of hours on a rainy day touring the underground parts of Gravina In Puglia and found it very interesting. It gives a new perspective on how the city was (and still is) built and on what was it like in past centuries. The cons are that this tour is not very interesting for very young kids after maybe the first 30 minuets, and that no English speaking guide was available when we were there.

Excellent starting point for your visit to Gravina in Puglia! Guide is very well prepared, will make you an appointment to suite and also offers guides in English as well as Italian. Tour takes you through a very instructive underground start, through the Sassi, into the water-duct and what's left of Etruscan tombs. The tour offers an insight to the city that you wouldn't normally be able to capture. Great way to spend the morning or afternoon and tough history with hand. Underground is well preserved and presented, all via steps and walking through the city as well.
