“Good nighd sleep”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 12 April 2012

I've stayed in a lot of hotels, and although this doesn't have the splendor, it also doesn't have the prices! I've always had a good sleep in them, and never found any problems. The Premier in at Alverston also sports a good view of the cricket field...

The Staff are always polite and helpfull

We stayed for 1 night enroute to our final destination. We were not disappointed with the choice of hotel/Premier Inn. We have always found PI's better than the other mainstream alternative, Travelodge. The room was spacious for the 4 of us (2 adults, 2 younger children). Everything was clean and well presented. The welcome was warm and efficient. Dinner was very good, but we were left floundering when we arrived as it wasnt clear where we went to get seated. Food was hot and tasty, plus the selection was OK. The vegetarian selection was poor, but this is par for the course these days. We had a quiet nights sleep, but the bed was too firm and myself and my wife could really have done with a 2nd pillow each. Other than that, it was a very pleasant stay.

Stayed one night for a friend's 40th. Our room had a balcony with a lovely view over the cricket ground, in the February sun! The bed was enormous and comfortable! Staff were friendly and informal. Nice grounds as well, for a little walk after breakfast, which was tasty. We had a very enjoyable stay!

The warm welcome from the young lady on reception couldn't have been bettered - she's a real credit to them. However, her older male colleague insisted on talking to her while she was booking us in, which we felt was most unprofessional of him. This hotel must be unique to Premier Lodge - we were told it used to be a Forte hotel - as it appeared every room had a balcony, looking over the adjoining cricket field and local scenery. It was lovely to wake up with the sun pouring in and to think how nice it must be to stay longer than we were able to. As we have come to expect from Premier Inn, the room and bathroom were spick and span and the bed was spotless and very comfortable.

Unfortunately, we felt this hotel is badly let down by the pub next door, which isn't in the same chain as Premier Inn. We waited a long time to order and even longer for our meal - sadly, mine wasn't worth the wait. To give credit, we did have it deducted from our bill and free drinks offered in compensation for the delay but we'd much rather have had a good meal.

The pub served breakfast the next morning and that was a bit better but we entered to the smell of burnt toast and, encountering the toaster, we realised why. One pass gave a slightly tinged slice, two passes cremated it. It seems a lot of bread was thrown away. Just how difficult is it to toast bread properly?!

We’d gladly return to this Premier Inn but we’d certainly find somewhere else to eat.

Booked a one-night stop over en-route to a holiday in Shropshire (self, partner & 2 1/2 year old). It was a bit of a gamble as we weren't sure what to expect as we booked it last minute and I hadn't had time to check on Trip Advisor!

Was a little concerned when we turned up that it looked like a 1960's motel but all my concerns were brushed away very quickly. Very friendly receptionist (works very long hours - was on duty when we checked in at 8pm and still there when we left at 11am but still cheerful - not sure I'd be that perky after a 14 hour + shift!!).

Room was clean, spacious and everything you need for a budget break. Bed was AMAZINGLY comfortable (it was lovely and firm - just right for me..) We were at ground level with a little balcony overlooking the cricket pitch. The room had it's own regulator for the air con / heating so you could adjust it to your own requirements and worked immediately.

Very occasional road noise but nothing to disturb us. Heard other residents go past the room after a night out but nothing from the other rooms adjoining or above. I think we were in 108??

We ate an evening meal in the adjoining pub (The Ship). The dinner was ok. We did the "all you can eat" breakfast deal and that was very disappointing. The quality of the cooked breakfast food was very poor (cheap ingredients) - powdered scrambled eggs, tinned tomatoes, cheap fatty bacon.. so a disappointment for £8.00 each (should've gone to Asda at Cribbs Causeway for an all day brekkie ;-)) But lots of cereal, fruit juice, tinned fruit for the healthy option. However the service was fine - lots of very friendly and helpful Eastern European staff who made a huge fuss over our daughter.

Easy location to find from the M5 (we came up from the south) and the day before we recieved text instructions on how to get there which was a real bonus to ease the journey on a Friday evening after a week at work (we don't have a satnav). It took about 20mins to get to the Severn Bridge (original) down the back lanes (well signposted).

Would recommend and use again if we're passing and need a stop-over.
