This property has it all, with a real wow factor. With clear instruction from the owner we easily found the cottage. Fantastic views, and only a few sheep for neighbours. We did see someone walking a dog one morning, yet only a few minutes walk away is the local garage/shop and The George Barrow pub, run by a very helpful family, with friendly locals.
The cottage is well equipped and clean; but we kept finding extras we have not seen in 40 years of self catering holidays. We were welcomed with tea and coffee supplies. Not just a couple of bags and UHT single portions – but boxes of tea bags and fresh milk in the fridge (one that has a generous freezer you could fill and live off for more than a week and really escape) and a pack of fresh Welsh cakes. In one cupboard was all the things you wish you had not forgotten, like salt, vinegar, sauces, a bottle of oil etc etc. “I don’t suppose there is any cling film,” asked my wife one evening when wanting to cover some left overs for the fridge – yes was the answer, and foil and small plastic bags ….. Under the sink washing up sponges all manner of cleaning products and even a choice of full size washing up liquid! Even tea towels were provided. There was the usual iron and board but also a “real” cleaner – a full size Henry.
There is a dedicated internet connection included, a log fire as well as central heating. There was always plenty of hot water. The bathroom is spacious and a double size shower cubicle, not the usual cramped little one in a corner.
Outside are wood benches and a solid picnic table that arrived during our stay. One evening two of the local kites paid a visit flying nearby.
The proprietor was helpful and supportive before, throughout and after our stay.
On the downside – we did not get a signal on our mobile phones in the actual cottage. (There is still a real phone box in the village outside the now closed Post Office)
Also as the loo is downstairs, it might not be suitable for small children or the elderly infirm.
Would we go back – definitely, but after a review like this I suspect it will very soon be fully booked. You will not be disappointed.

We had a lovely stay in Ponterwyd. The cottage is fully equiped for a 4 to 6 people, and very comfortable, as it can allow for everyone to have their own space (kitchen far enough from the bedrooms that no one disturbed anyone else, etc.). The landlords are helpful and friendly, answered quickly to any question we had, and left us a folder with useful tips about the area (what to visit, where to eat, etc.) ,as well as clear indications before we arrived about how to access the place. There is a petrol station for everyday grocery shopping, and a supermarket about 12 miles from the cottage in Aberystwyth (Llanbadarn Fawr); and the path leading to the house from Ponterwyd allows for a nice walk when you continue past the habitations. We recommend it to any family or couple willing to explore West Wales and have a quiet and restful holiday. The Pembrokeshire Coast is only an hour and a half away by car.
