This is a very interesting and unspoiled site that I am glad our group had the opportunity to tour. We took a scenic boat ride from the mainland over to the site and had the entire area to ourselves to wander around the ruins. Our guide shared some interesting stories of the site with us and there were also several information signs around the site. The ride up Lough Erne is a lovely one.

When you travel, it's always best to either do your research or have a really good guide. Devenish Island is one of those places. It was recommended to us. We took a boat tour of Lock Erne, which we never would have been inclined to do on our own. It rained, but stopped shortly after we docked at Devenish. The island museum provided even more information on the history and there are plenty of photo ops around the ruins. Take the 33 steps--watch out for the low arch over the last step; it's not only symbolic, but also makes a good photo op.

Visited this unusual settlement as part of a trip with Lough Erne Cruises from the outskirts of Enniskillen. This particular cruise allowed sufficient time ashore to investigate the ruins and visit the small museum. There was also an interesting commentary on board.

Not so hidden but we hired a boat to come visit the island. The taxi service had just started back up too but we wanted to hire a boat anyway. Very pretty island with lots of history and culture. Very interesting history written up inside the little building with plenty of information about the island.

Took a boat tour of the Lough and we stopped off on Devenish Island for about half an hour. Well maintained monastic ruins on Lough Erne. Worth a look on a fine day.
