Beautiful Beaches.........great for surfing!
A bit rocky, not great for sunbathing and be careful if you aren't a confident ocean swimmer.
Lovely property and great Costa Rica vibe, casual & relaxed

Spacious rooms with a fabulous bathtub for soaking, get an ocean front room and watch the beautiful sunsets nightly

Stayed: April 2016, travelled on business
Thank Andrea K

The reviews on this place are pretty consistent, so I guess I'm surprised that other guests are still surprised by their experiences. It is more beautiful than it appears in the pictures. And it is isolated: It cost 4 of us $25 each way for a taxi to Avellanas Beach, which is really just around the corner as the crow flies. There is no real attempt to provide a provide an authentic Costa Rican experience here, and that shouldn't be surprising. For example, the staff doesn't really greet you with "Buenos dias" consistently. We didn't have an opportunity to try the nightly BBQ, which looked really good. The evening bar option (as far as I could tell there was only one) is not at all inviting: bad lighting, outdated cocktail selections, limited beers, and generic decor. The restaurant we went to every night also had generic decor. The dinners were not memorable, though the sushi was pretty good. Breakfast was very good, especially the buffet. The staff was courteous and helpful. Bottom line: This is America plopped on the coast of Central America. (I only heard a few guest voices that weren't American.) If you want to stay in your comfort zone, you'll be fine with this hotel. If this is the only place visit in Costa Rica and you go home and tell people you visited Costa Rica, it's like going to New York and only visiting Times Square.

Dear Sylvester F;

Thank you very much for your positive comments and for your feedback. I shared your review with our Food and Beverage Director in order to improve our services in our NAU Bar.

On the other hand I am pleased to know that you liked the Resort and have enjoyed the Sushi at Tamarine and our Breakfast at Mansita.

This are have a lot to offer to our guests since there is National Parks and great beaches nearby that is why I always recommend to rent a car and adventure.

Kindest regards;

We stayed here for two nights on a Caravan Costa Rica tour. I cannot say enough good things about this resort or Caravan. We had a huge buffet with incredible foods and got to eat outside with a great view of the infinity pool. The grounds were very well kept, the staff was friendly, the beach was small and a bit rocky but who cares.....it was soooo beautiful. Our room faced a field and partial view of the ocean. We could hear the howler monkeys in the distance from our balcony. It was wonderful!!

We stayed here for a long weekend getaway using my Marriott points and had a nice relaxing time. The property feels very isolated, but it's truly only 15-20 min from Tamarindo and other beaches. I think we ate at all of the restaurants at the resort except for the Asian fusion place. All of them are pricey (expected at a resort), but very good. The pool is the highlight of the place (huge and beautiful), and it's open 24-7 which is great for a midnight swim. The private beach is small, but nice. We especially enjoyed the sunset BBQ on the beach. The spa is first-class as well.

The service was great across the board. We were impressed that the entire staff seemed to be bilingual. Maybe the only area lacking was the pool where the bartenders didn't come around very often.

Overall, it's a great resort and spa. To be honest, if I wasn't staying on points, I would probably opt for a lower priced resort. But if you can afford it or can get a good rate, go for it.

This was the first of 4 hotels that we stayed at in Costa Rica over 10 days. We stayed here for 2 nights...the property is beautiful and the pool is amazing. The hotel itself is a bit isolated though so if you plan to get out and explore this might not be the best choice. If you plan on relaxing by the pool, then this is a beautiful spot. We ate breakfast here and the breakfast buffet was amazing...we ate at the steak restaurant and the service and food was great....another night we went to the beach club off property and I would not recommend this...the food was really poor but the service was great...the rooms at this hotel were clean and comfortable and the bathtub was pure bliss but it was a long walk from our room to the pool and restaurants...the service at this hotel was amazing!

Room Tip: ask for a room close to pool...we had a great view but a bit of a walk to the pool/restaurants
