We stayed 10 relaxing days in Cha Cha resort with 2 kids and grandmother (aged 77) , and all of us enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere of the resort even if only 3 of us were diving. The private beach is small but more than enough taking into account the maximum number of guests at the resort (during the 10 days we were the only ones sunbathing on the beach). We also loved to walk on the beach during the low tide. Snorkeling at the home reef was great even if there was occasionally some current. Raf & Agnes were always helpful to advice how to snorkel safely.

We took guided snorkeling tours which were well worth the money as we were taken to excellent spots and our guide, Mull, showed us moray eel and sting ray that we would definitely otherwise have missed. We even had a chance to see dolphins during the trip.

We stayed at spacious Ocean View Villa with beautiful views which was very nice even for grandmother who was originally a bit worried about climbing the steps. After all, you do need the exercise after eating all what is served. The food was excellent and prepared carefully to individually accommodate our various and complex diets. Everything that was served - and a lot was – always had a substitute both as vegetarian and dairy+gluten-free! Some days Agnes even baked the best gluten-free banana buns or cakes for afternoon tea. Haven’t so far had this easy, careless and tasteful experience with the dietary restrictions anywhere in the world!

Raf and his wife Reiko are very nice, friendly and easy-going persons that enjoy meeting and discussing with all the new guests that enter their dinner table – that’s how you feel when staying at Bunaken Cha Cha. Thanks to everybody in the resort who made our trip unforgettable!

We stayed 5 days at Bunaken Cha Cha Nature Resort, and it was the perfect place for diving and snorkeling!

- Food amazing
- Host amazing
- Diving amazing

Water is a little salty but no problem for showering. Raf and his wife are very friendly as well as the whole crew. There is not much sand beach in front of the resort especially at low tide due to the coral (house reef) right in front of the resort.

Food is delicious and plenty variety - daily variation.

We enjoyed our stay - even though we gained 2 kg :-)

Thanks a lot to the whole Cha Cha team!

Best part was when we were leaving and the whole Cha Cha Team was standing on the balcony waving goodbye until their arms must have fallen off :-)

If you are looking for the friendliness and intimacy of a backpacker resort but want the amenities of a high-end resort (but without the attitude and astronomical prices), Cha Cha is for you. Owners Raf and Reiko are delightful and have created a wonderful vacation escape. We really enjoyed our clean and modern Ocean View Villa, with fabulous views and its own patio (yes, some steep steps to get there but well worth it!). The staff are all helpful, with a special shoutout to the operations manager, Agnes, and to the dive and snorkel guides. Due to some ear problems I could not dive as I had planned, but have to say that the snorkeling was so fantastic that I didn't really miss diving. It is well worth going on the boat-based, guided snorkel tours as the Cha Cha staff member who will accompany you can no doubt find many more critters than you can. The health of the coral is astounding and the species diversity of fish and invertebrates was impressive. Food at Cha Cha was of very high quality and a vegetarian diet was accommodated cheerfully. While we were there, the other guests came from Japan, the Netherlands, and Germany, and mealtime conversation was enjoyable. Communications and transfers were all seamless. Yes, North Sulawesi is a long trip from the U.S., but it is fairly easy to get to,the infrastructure for visitors is pretty well organized, the people are welcoming, and the underwater world is outstanding.

We visited Cha Cha on the first leg of our Indo dive trip.

The hosts Raf and Reiko welcome you to the resort as if it is their home. Well it is their home! Raf is a enthusiastic host and made our time there super fun and entertaining.

The resort is isolated on a private beach with just a few rooms and is super peaceful and tranquil set in amazing lush tropical gardens. Arrival is by boat (wading onto the beach) and the resort is set back into the hillside.

Dining is set both in menu and timing and all taken at a communal table. The food was undeniably the best we had on the entire trip by far!

A wonderful host and hostess both work super hard on the service and quality and hence we very cheekily nicknamed Raf, King Raf is the nicest possible way: Huge fun and a super lovely couple.

If I had to mention a few items it would be to 'dress' and 'style' the rooms a little better. This would just flip the switch to lux boutique for me. Bathrobes could be an idea as the windows are huge and the curtains are more for style than function.

Perhaps also tidy up the main salon area as its open plan: seeing electrical equipment, trowels and other building materials lying around does not quite give the quality boutique like vibes the rest of the area works so hard to achieve.

Raf is of course super knowledgeable about diving and was also able to help when we had a fault with our own dive equipment.

The diving is by small boat and is all close by. It is mostly wall diving and whilst its beautiful I would also encourage a visit to Lembeh and to Bangka to see the best of what this area has to offer. We loved it all.

Dear Clare
Thank you for taking the time to write this lovely review about your stay with us at Cha Cha.
We are so glad you enjoyed the food, location and the peace and tranquility, all being aspects
that we strive very hard to achieve for our guests.
I have taken note of your comments regarding the rooms and I have a few ideas that hopefully
future guests will appreciate, first being glass film on the windows to reduce glare etc from the
sun and also some heavier curtains, the reception area has been cleared of the "bits & pieces"
that were laying around ......thank you for the observations, helped us to "see" this.
I hope that our "fix" for your regulator worked and that you could enjoy your dives in Lembeh and
Bangka using it.
Once again that you for the review and suggestions and hope that we may meet up again in the
near future back at Cha Cha
Take care

My third time in 10 years visiting ChaCha, one of few places I have been that make me cry when I leave. A friend and I had been diving on a liveaboard in Raja Ampat and were stopping for 5 days on our return at Bunakken. Our trip had been fabulous, the dive adventure of a lifetime, but stopping at Chacha was something else, the perfect decompression. We had been eating well, but the food at Raf and Reiko's table was something else again. Every meal was delicious and the convivial atmosphere at the table was delightful. The location is wonderfully remote, an adventure from the moment you are met at the airport, driven to the boat (either in the town of Manado or at a remote dock on a tiny bay) and motor out to the lovely islands. Landing at the beach can be another adventure depending on the tides, but it is all so unlike boring resort travel and it is so very worth the effort. Agnes was waiting with welcoming drinks. Our bags were carried to the room where the beds were festooned with hibiscus flowers. I still love the old rooms with their ultra-romantic colonial chic interiors but on this stay we got to stay in both one of the original rooms and one of the very stylish and comfortable new rooms with the enormous glass walls overlooking the ocean. The grounds are stunning, full of flowering plants. The beach is small and varies with the tides, but the snorkelling and diving right in front of the resort is excellent and at low tide, walking the flats will reveal a wealth of life. Days passed, we did two dives a day, a bit burnt out after 2 1/2 weeks of diving already, and I regret not fitting in a night dive, as from earlier trips I remember night dives at Chacha as some of the best I have ever done. There were an interesting array of guests (never many as Chacha has only 6 rooms) but those that find their way to this incredible retreat tend to be delightful. 5 nights went by way to fast and suddenly we were on the boat back to Manado, waving madly as we left, and wondering what excuse I can come up with to return again.
