Good quality for low budget

4.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 29 Jan 2013
Writing as a backpacker: I've stayed there only one night but I can certainly recommend you this one. It didn't cost me a fortune and finally I had a nice sleep and decent bathroom after intensive visiting of Japan.

We first stayed at this Toyoko Inn location in May 2012 and liked it very much and gave great reviews. This time it was a very different experience. The room we checked into did not have the toilet cleaned yet -- I suspect the previous guest had the eco-plan (a plan in which you are given a 300 yen discount if you opt out of getting your room cleaned and having the sheets changed). Perhaps the housekeeping probably got confused about the check out date and did not do a thorough clean. We were not able to get our room changed even though we tried to call downstairs. Furthermore note that by 4 pm the housekeeping personnel are out of the hotel so there is no way you can ask them to come up to clean the room after they leave work. Check in is at 4 pm-not a minute earlier unless you're a Toyoko Inn member --in which case you can check in at 3 pm. The hotel personnel are very 'rule-oriented' and will not check you in a minute earlier even though it was snowing hard outside and there was no where you could go nearby to wait. We asked for two keys at check in however only one worked. So we went down to get the other key activated and even though an apology would have been nice we were instead scolded that it was problematic for them because if they activated one more key, the other would not work and the front desk gentleman kept grumbling about this non working key although it was no fault of ours that the keys didn't work in the first place. We were scheduled to stay two nights and after we paid up front for the two nights, we were told that we needed to be out of our rooms the entire time between 10 am - 4 pm on the second day, and because there was a snow blizzard it was a true inconvenience. On departure day we asked a male front desk clerk if he would be able to call a taxi for us and he initially agreed. We waited for some time but there was no taxi so we asked if he knew if the taxi was on the way. He said that this was not the only job he has to do and he was busy so I should go catch one on my own on the road. Wish he had said that earlier or let us know that he would not be helping us with a taxi. Interestingly, NO hotel guests were at the front desk at that time. Granted this is not a full service hotel and is considered 'business class' hotel, there should still be a standard of professionalism in handling guests. I would rate this hotel a definite one star in spite of the fact that the hotel is new and really has much potential because of that particular male front desk clerk, which by the way is also the one who checked us in initially!!

This is the 3rd Toyoko Inn Hotel we stayed throughout our holiday in Japan.

What we like about the hotel 1. It's a brand new hotel and the color of the bed covering looks better than other Toyoko. 2. they maintain the standard Toyoko facilities n benefits eg discount for members, washing n dryer, simple Japanese breakfast, clean pyjamas, free drinking water, vending machine for drinks etc. 3. There's a special toiletries for ladies guest only 4. they serve beer n dinner (chargeable) 5.There's 7Eleven and restaurants across the road (close at 8pm) 6. There's free bus transfer to n from Shinagawa JR station which we find it very convenient whenever we want to take JR around Tokyo 7. The hotel is very near to monorail hence it's very convenient if u want to go to Haneda airport 8. Our flight was at night but we'd to check out by 10am so it's great that the hotel was able to let us park our luggage n we manage do our last minute sightseeing n shopping. 9. We truly love their spacious deluxe twin room as it can accommodate 4 person. It also has sofa, foot stool n coffee table.

We cant really think of any bad thing about this hotel accept we felt rather disappointed as they only serve coffee during breakfast and no all day free coffee like some of the Toyoko Inn we stayed.

Had pre booked with Booking.com and on arrival at Shinagawa station it was easy to find the shuttle to hotel.
Although everything was really fine with the hotel...if they only had one or two english speaking staff it would have been perfect. There were a few teething problems at first as all instructions in room are in Japanese....heating...tv..etc.
All things considered good value convenient hotel for visiting Tokyo and Yokohama.
A real bonus was the T.Y. Brewery within a 5 minute walk.

Room tip: Ask for a double bed as most rooms have only a single bed.

We stayed in this hotel for three nights art the start of or two week Japan trip June 2012. It was easy to get to from Hanieda airport. The hotel is new, which mad everything pretty nice. The interior courtyard was super cool. The elevators was fast. The showers really good water pressure and heat. The few negatives to consider were - 15 minute wail from the train station - they have a bus, but a little inconvenient. Hotel staff has enough English to get along -don't ask anything involved. Air conditioning has an Japanese controller and is not intuitive. If you can live with these few things, this is a pretty great place to stay in Tokyo.

Very clean, reasonable and strategically located. It just opened late March 2012 and everything is new

Room tip: clean though simple in concept. Fre breakfast is very nice. There is free shuttle service from and to the station. I would highly recommend as one of the best budget hotels to stay at in Tokyo.
