Stayed 2 nights at The Gate to experience another location of Tokyo. Good location wise to transport and several tourist locations as well as ample restaurants of all cuisines outside the door. Rooms are reasonably large by Japanese standards and pleasingly the hotel is smoke free. The lobby and restaurant are in the top floor to maximise the vista. Bathrooms are again a good size as well as having a rainwater style shower head. Only critique was the restaurant at breakfast. Not a large number of seats and the waiting staff almost outnumber the customers so there is a certain amount of “hovering” trying to provide service when I could have used some space. Breakfast is also a hybrid serviced/buffet style which can be confusing. Not a large selection of items to choose from...4 hot dishes, 1 cereal, no toast or toaster for example. But, rooms are quiet, bed is comfy, bathrooms good.

My husband and I spent 2 nights at this hotel and found our stay to be excellent. From Narita Airport, it took about 1 hour via direct train and about a 5-7 minute walk once you exit the Asakusa train station.

We reserved Style E, which was a double bed. The room was quite small by American standards (there was only enough space to open one carry on suitcase at a time). Despite the small size, the bed was comfortable and the bathroom area was spacious. I also appreciated the complimentary bottled water and the Nespresso machine. I would recommend a larger room category if you have a suitcase larger than a carry on.

Our stay came with free breakfast, which was quite excellent and included a buffet of hot/cold items (Japanese and Western selections) as well as a cook to order selection of hot items. I would allow extra time for breakfast if you are pressed for time. We arrived at 6:40AM (breakfast starts at 6:30) and had to wait roughly 10 minutes before we were seated. I imagine the wait time must be much longer at a later hour.

Staff at the front desk as well as the restaurant were both very efficient and prompt and all spoke very good to excellent English. As others mentioned, the location is walking distance to the shrine as well as plenty of restaurants within walking distance. The hotel is also 5-10 minutes walk to the pier, where you can take a Tokyo cruise to Tsukiji area and a subway stop away from the Skytree and Sumida Aquarium.

This was a great hotel. I would stay here again, but most likely in a larger room category.

Stayed at The Gate Hotel for 4 nights in a twin room. Room was modern, clean with excellent shower and Nespresso machine, also located on the 9th floor with a view of the sky tower
Great location across the road from Senso-Ji temple and the Asakusa station. Make sure you walk around this area for shopping and good food. It’s also a short walk to Asahi Beer Hall and a bit further to the sky tower. Be wary the breakfast is very limited and you may have to wait up to 40 minutes to get a seat as it’s a very small restaurant. We gave up on the last day as had a train to catch and ate at the station.

We started our Japan trip here staying for four nights in a classy room. The location was perfect. The room was lovely, with beautiful views. We especially loved the little touches like the bath salts, and the comfy pyjamas! The rooftop bar was fabulous, and the breakfasts were really good (the best orange juice I have ever had!).
The staff were always nice and thoughtful. We had requested some nice restaurant recommendations in advance of our stay as we were celebrating our anniversary, and they booked some really amazing meals for us - I strongly recommend anyone staying here does the same. They also left us a beautiful handmade card and gift in our room ❤️
We would stay here again - perfect x

PROS: Hotel is near restaurants, metro, ATM, market, Senso-ji temple and shopping streets. Great view of Sky Tree Tower. Lobby and rooftop terrace have great views. Nice bathroom. Good service.

CONS: Room had a slightly funky smell, toilet smelled a bit of urine (but bathroom looked clean), AC was iffy so we left the windows open the whole time. If you come in summer and don’t like the heat I’d reconsider. Small room typical of Japanese hotels.

Overall though a pretty good stay, mostly because of location and staff service.
