I enjoyed the evening food tour with Yuma in Shinjuku. While all the included food was delicious, the final two stops were my personal favorites- a local izakaya spot specializing in chicken yakitori dishes and an okonomiyaki spot in residential Shinjuku. I’ve had okonomiyaki a bunch, but this place was really special and is a popular spot among locals.

In addition to food stops, we visited Kabukicho, Golden Gai, and Piss Alley, of which Yuma explained their quirky histories.

Beyond food, Yuma was able to answer our questions about Japanese culture as well.

Lots of food- don’t eat a heavy meal before the tour!

We did this in Febuary- I thought it was fantastic. We saw lots of Tokyo we wouldn't have seen alone, and our guide had really interesting information about Japanese society. He took us to some hole-in- the-wall restaurants that were fabulous. Overall, 10/10 for sure! I'd even repeat the same thing if we came back!

Had a fantastic tour from Yuma! He was knowledgeable and took us places we’d never have wandered into alone. He answered all of our questions and made sure we were well fed too. Afterwards, he even sent us great recommendations for the rest of our time in Tokyo.

We did the Ninja Food tour on our first night in Tokyo. It was a great way to start our trip as we got to see quite a bit of Shinjuku and had lots of yummy food stops! Our guide Rei was brilliant, spoke excellent English and was good fun. There were only 5 of us on the tour so it was relaxed, friendly and just felt like a nice night out with friends. The places we stopped at were all delicious and Rei was great and giving us lots of interesting stories and info about Japanese food culture. Shinjuku is a brilliant, but busy and crazy place so having some help to navigate the area was definitely a good decision...Would highly recommend this tour!

While in Tokyo, I took a food tour through the Shinjuku neighborhood with Ninja Food Tours. The tour was terrific and the tour guide, Tetsuko, was awesome! She was genuinely interested in figuring out what kind of food and beverages everyone in the tour liked and then gave lots of terrific recommendations of places around Tokyo to eat and drink at after the tour. Plus the places we visited on the tour were all really amazing. She even started the tour by bringing us cans of locally brewed beer that we enjoyed as we walked through Golden Gai. I tried another food tour with a different company while in Tokyo (I won't name names), and it wasn't nearly as good as this tour. Definitely check out Ninja Food Tours if you are in Japan.
