Travelled with my mom. I ordered "Peace, Love, & Togetherness" as is was the only item on the menu that was written in English. No regrets!! Asked the cook to serve it in half portions for me and my mom (see photo). Even halved, it filled our bellies and we had very happy tummies.
"Peace, Love, & Togetherness" has soft pork, heaps of crushed garlic, and noodles and soup you can swim in. Though the garlic was plentiful, it didn't overpower the other tastes.

There are about 40 Ramen Jiro (Direct Franchises) and so many Jiro-inspired Ramen shops in Japan. This is the world headquarter of Ramen Jiro. Ramen Jiro is not typical ramen. Three pillars in Ramen Jiro. 1st pillar is the soup. Soy and Pork based soup with lard creates rich and wild taste. 2nd pillar is the noodle. Specially made noodle is thick and chunky. New comers are sometime overwhelmed by the volume of noodle. The last pillar is the topping. You can create your own Ramen Jiro by adding extra vegetable, garlic, lard and special soy source at free of charge. It opens 8:30-15:00 and 17:00-20:00. Closed on Sunday and national holidays. You can see Mr.Yamada, the founder and living legend in front of you. (or his son)
English menu is not available, however, people around you definitely help you. I hope you try and enjoy great Ramen in the world headquarter.

This place is absolutely terrific! It is extremely cheap. 600 yen will give you food to last for what seems like days. You will get enormous chunks of delicious pork, and a huge portion of perfectly cooked noodles. The broth is so good and deep. Ask for garlic, and you will get a large spoon full of freshly chopped garlic. The ambiance is very original Tokyo style. Everything is about the food - and people don't waste time talking. There is usually a large queue, so be prepared to wait 20-30 min.

Buy the smallest one (everything is in Japanse, so just buy the one that costs 600 yen at the vending machine) if you want to have a small chance of finishing your meal.

Three hours after barely finishing my regular-sized bowl of Jiro's ramen, my body is still suffering from the calorie trauma. On one hand, I am glad that I can mark this famous institution off my food list. Moreover, the thick cuts of delicious roast pork were quite tasty. However, demerits include a long wait in line, cramped quarters, and grease overload.

People who dine here regularly are most likely drawn to its affordability. The regular sized bowl is huge and sets diners back a mere 600 yen. However, when factoring in the significant quality boost (for both taste and ambiance) that is readily available in Tokyo with a lunch budget at 1000 yen, I definitely opt for the latter.

For foodie tourists who are set on experiencing what the fuss is about, go for it. For others who value a pleasant dining experience over reputation and nostalgia, I recommend giving ramen Jiro a miss.
