Description: We are a small Japanese restaurant on a corner of Roppongi and openned our restaurant on December 23, 2003. To prepare Japanese cuisine and present the amazing ingredients of Japan to customers daily is sharing the spirit of "Wa (harmony)" with many people and convey the richness of the whole of Japan, and provide a space to admire a moment of a delicious banquet together. The dinner and the preparer resonate with each other through the food and recognize the preciousness of the richness of Japan... To be able to convey this everyday with pride to people might be akin to doing our important "national duty" for Japan. As a Japanese cuisine chef with this sense of a self imposed mission I felt during my training, I opened this small Japanese restaurant on December 23, which is a special day in Japan with the feeling of raising the flag of Japan. The origin of our name "RyuGin" comes from the words of "Zen", and is derived from "龍吟雲起(RyuGin-Unki)". During my training, I came across a book of “Zen” and within it, a hidden meaning of "龍吟雲起(RyuGin-Unki)"... "When a heroic person makes a decision and takes action, his comrades will mutually resonate and gather there..." That lesson moved my heart, and made me decide on the name of my restaurant.

“Good restaurant, but...”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 17 June 2012

Good restaurant, but... does it deserve 3 Michelin stars? Honestly, I was expecting something more. Nothing was so amazingly better than in many other good restaurants in Japan, with or without stars. Nice experience, not that astonishing, though.

“Contravertial: Can visit once but don't recommend for the second visit unless using them for client entertainment”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 13 June 2012 via mobile

I have been visiting Ryugin for quite many years for client entertainment perhaps about 7 years but I can see how it's been deteriorating over these years. The dishes are well executed but it's becoming form over substance. Since it became one of the highest ranked restaurants in Tokyo, think it became highly commercial and lost its shine. I recommend to visit once to chop your passport but don't need to be there again.

“Yes!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 24 April 2012

Tokyo is such a happening dining place that the best is truly great. Inconspicuous and enticingly tucked away down a less-traveled street, one would likely walk right past this restaurant were you not looking for it, and that would be a terrible mistake. What can I add to the raving reviews posted here and the world of foodie websites? This is a really terrific experience. If you have the cash, do it.

“Beautiful but Expensive”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 30 March 2012

Small, 3 star Michelin restaurant. Western style seating but restaurant is very japanese in style otherwise. Food is superb - beautifully presented; outstanding textures and flavours/tastes; first rate ingredients; innovative.

Don't worry about dressing up - as in many/most places in Japan, dress is very casual. English spoken and explanations of the food done very well. Read Andy Hayler's review before you go. www.andyhayler.com/.

Japanese food at this level is an acquired taste... As a westerner it doesn't "wow" as easily as a, say, 3 star French restaurant. However, if you like good food, a trip to a place of this quality is part of an (expensive) Japanese experience. Expect to pay $750 for two WITHOUT drinks which can easily double the bill.....

“One of the best meals I've ever had”

Amazing food and service. It was a bit difficult to make a reservation, especially if you don't live in Japan, but definitely worth the hassle.
