Owner description: Great place to visit if you love to eat fresh fish or sushi. Choose from a variety of welcoming shops and restaurants. Fish is also sold in this market but be sure to arrive early as the best fish tends to sell out early in the morning.

We ended up at Tsukiji this morning as the jet lag seemed to have kicked in with the kids. Whilst we had limited time in the inner market before being moved on the place was busy so not really suitable for the buggys or a toddler insisting on walking.

We moved to the outer market and after a walk around settled on the sushi for breakfast based on how helpful our host was with the buggys by clearing a space. The market itself was fantastic and whilst we never made it for the limited tour places the experience we had was great.

The sushi was fresh as it could be and the sights and sounds for the kids was a great experience around the outer market.

It’s way too much trouble trying to catch the early morning auction at Tsukiji but the outer market is really not a bad alternative to enjoying the Tsukiji experience. By 12 noon the place can get packed. We like getting there around 11 with having little to no breakfast so we get there pretty hungry. You can easily eat your way through the place. Eat whatever catches your fancy because that’s part of the fun and experience. Yes, it gets crowded but go with the flow and enjoy it. Grab some skewers and a beer! To get there take the Hibiya line and get off at station H10. Look for exit door no 1, walk past the Buddhist temple and the market will be on the next block.

A totally fascinating place that really needs no publicity. Did not visit the actual market and you're not really encouraged to. It's a wholesale market for local and international buyers, not groups of tourists. It's wet, busy and if you're not careful, dangerous, lots of trucks, and carts moving around at speed. (OK, I did check it out.)
The outer market is where the action is for the average person looking for something different, that perfect salmon sashimi or a quick, inexpensive lunch. We purchased seafood cooked many different ways and served in cups, bowls and on skewers. All good and priced reasonably. We also ventured into a couple of sushi bars and at one small 7-seat place I had the best tuna sashimi of my life. It was served with raw wasabi I ground on a piece of shark skin tacked to a small paddle. One of my all time great dining experiences. You just can't go wrong here, try everything and venture into the smallest or largest place that looks interesting. Highly recommended!

We always planned to visit here after seeing this famous Market on numerous shows about fish and sushi and we finally had an opportunity to visit last week. It was very crowded while we were there but it did not take away from the charm and excitement of the place. There are many things to choose from including produce, fish, dried foods and many other things. We had delicious fresh uni and baby octopus while we walked the aisles and visited the various vendors. We did not see the famous tuna auction but we enjoyed our experience nonetheless. You will know the food places you should try by the lines at their shops like the Tamago and the noodle places. It is worth a visit!

This market is world famous for its tuna auctions which are held daily, except Sunday, during the very early hours of the morning like 5 to 6 am and those interested to experience and watch an auction, would have to present themselves at the market office to register themselves as early as 3am because they have a limit to the number of visitors per day, 120 we were told.

We went to the market after 10 am and the market activities had started to dwindle and the workers in the wet area were all doing cleaning up and knocking off after a long morning.

What were still going on at that time were stalls and vendors along a few rows of shophouses selling groceries, dried foodstuff and restaurants offering breakfast to mostly visitors & locals too. There were a few noodle shops but the most popular restaurants with long queues waiting in line outside were the sushi restaurants as expectations were that one could get the freshest sushi there, I guess.

Overall, the reputation of this market makes it worth a visit.
