A terrible experience. Clever photography and lighting makes this old dark house look like a palace. Although we understood that this is an old house, it’s poorly maintained. It was dusty, cobwebs everywhere and sockets coming off the wall – even the towels smelled of mould.
The overall description of this listing is completely misleading. No fire extinguisher, no first-aid kit, no breakfast – not even a small bottle of water. Not a park as described, it’s a garden and the garden furniture was abandoned and unusable, completely unrecognisable from the photos. This ‘refuge’ as the host describes includes 4 dogs instead of 2 and variety of noisy exotic birds (parakeets and parrots) in 3 large cages, two of which were placed directly in front of the bedrooms. There is also a peacock that freely roams the grounds throughout the day and sits on the balcony calling out loudly until midnight. We had booked this house for 2 weeks, hoping to enjoy our holiday but we could not sleep at all. There were loud birds, a neighbour talking on his phone in front of our bedroom at 2am, dogs barking and a peacock like an alarm after 4am every 10 minutes. This so called ‘refuge away from the daily stress' had become a nightmare for us. Although we understood from the description that there were some small birds and a couple of dogs, we were not expecting the amount of animals and level of noise that we found. Is this a zoo? Being from London, we accept a certain level of noise but this was ridiculous and we were becoming very stressed and exhausted from the lack of sleep.
When we asked the host to cover the bird cages at night for us to get some sleep she refused and was only willing to move one cage 30 metres away which made no difference. She seemed annoyed at us for asking and never moved the second cage. She became increasingly annoyed and dismissive of our issues. Before making this reservation, I sent her a message specifically asking if she would have cooling fans available as the house is not air conditioned. She said yes but when we arrived, she had provided just 1 small dusty fan for the whole house. In 38c weather, leaving the windows open for air was a necessity. There was no electricity from 1am on the second night until lunchtime the next day. With no hot water and our food going off we asked for her assistance when she got home. Her response was to barge in with a handyman and be incredibly rude and insulting about my family and I. There was no misunderstanding as I am Italian also. I was shocked. With all the problems experienced, we decided to leave after 4 nights. We left after four days with the permission of Airbnb. After providing substantial evidence (photos/videos) we were assisted by Airbnb and fortunately we found a beautiful house with a lovely host elsewhere. Our holiday was almost ruined by staying here.
