“hotel roca negra - pleasant quite relaxed stay”
Reviewed 10 April 2012

best way to find place is off GC2, near adeate, follow signs for cemetery. dont worry not to close
Hi first this is a lovely newley built 4 star hotel. Much nicer then a 4 star hotel in uk.
service good, but room service would avoid as 10 euro surcharge.
food limited in room anyway
breakfast was good, when scrambled eggs hot, lovely. nice fruit and pastry
avoid the tap water and brush with free water
remember to ask for safe fob, which you need to leave 25 euro deposit
nice large room, was on the 3rd floor with amazing views, and large balcony
good tv, with lots of channels and even a few english ones.
nice well equipped bathroom, modern
large queen size bed
nice robes
good swimming pool and outdoor jacuzzi
evening meal limited avoid dinner, best option if bed and breakfast
nice pizzari attached.
very good spa attached, would recommend trying one of the massages.
not cheap though at 55 euros for 1 hours anti stress
eating out - try the puerto nuevo which you can walk to down the coast slope by the roca lounge
steep walk back
lovely selection of restaurant, especially the caisa restaurant,s big lovely owner, very welcoming and helpful. went twice and was very happy with everything i had, lovely deserts.
one important must for this hotel is hire a car, otherwise very isolated.
if you into outdoor activity eg climbing , walking etc, plenty of contacts via hotel.
also i would stronly recommend visiting puerto de la munga, beautiful - check first.
my friend found bed a bit hard
and the bath is quite small
also place would benefit from tea making service in the room

Room Tip: get a room with a sea view

Well price/quality balanced hotel-spa ($155 per night, ocean-view standard double, single occupancy, breakfast included) on the top of the hill, overlooking the bay.

Trilingual (English/Italian/Spanish) front desk, with French speaking office manager. Front desk staff is friendly and helpful with some exceptions, and that is very sadly because those exceptions actually kill other personnel great work.

On the board are: restaurant Rubinie (breakfast and dinner), restaurant-pizzeria La Caleta (pizza is very close to authentic Italian), pool bar/nice café (incredible pork medallions), two pools, hot tub and spa.
Spa provides wide choice of good quality Western and Asian massages, relaxing/antiaging body and face treatments etc.

2nd and 3rd floor rooms are with balconies, 1st floor rooms with private patio.
Rooms are clean and neat, including loveseat, chairs, working desk, small fridge, safe, and sliding door to a balcony, on balcony the table and 2 convenient chairs. Bathroom is well equipped and stuffed. Bath's fan was thundering NOISY.
32" flatscreen TV with multilingual channels, surprisingly CNN is not presented there.
Everyday good room cleaning, towels changing and complimentary fresh water supply.
Convenient programmable room's key. Late check-out permitted upon request.

To breathe the fresh ocean air, I kept balcony door opened all day/night. However, when neighbours started smoking on the balcony or in the rooms it became VERY unpleasant and I would say unhealthy (passive smoking). The personnel smoking at hotel entrance sometimes, which unfortunately adds some discomfort too.

Decent Wi-Fi internet (down 3Mbps; up 0.6; 84 ms ping) allowing TV stream and Skype videochat troubles free. Experienced some problems with internet access at the beginning of stay, however those problems were fixed later on.

At the bottom of the hill, there are very popular among locals and tourist pools made from volcanic rocks with ocean water access. Next to pools is great promenade walk. Nearest small city is Agaete, in shops and restaurants staff are mostly Spanish speaking only, however the menus are multilingual. Active night life was not detected there.

This hotel is good for near pools lazy sunbathing. At the same time, hotel advise great trekking, hiking and biking guided tour provider. Starting points of those activities are just in few minutes from the hotel. Mountain roots are VERY spectacular and impressive (Caves Acusa seco, Artenara, Tejeda, Roque Nublo, Pico del Nieves etc).

30 minutes to airport ride allow easy access to nearest Fuerteventura and Lanzarote islands by Binter (recommende) and Las Islas. Lanzarote is the motherland of extremely talented local architect and designer Cesar Manrique, highly recommend visiting his projects and museum. Flight to Lanzarote takes 45 min and cost 144 euro for round-trip full refundable and exchangeable airticket. Non-refundable can be purchased for less.

Strongly suggest setup within hotel non-smoking zones (areas), so smokers could not bother other guests at all.
Front desk personnel choosing (training) policy should be revised and updated too.
Wood recommend using computer in hall make free of charge.
In general, good hotel for smoking travellers during fall, winter and spring breaks

Room Tip: I would suggest ask for the 1st floor.

Look what can I say I am an experience traveller and if you like total peace and quiet away from the crowds and of an evening you like to drink your supermarket bought wine and sit and read a book on the balcony then this is the place for you.
There is nothing actually wrong with Roca negra it is voted number 1 in agate as its the only hotel there, it's clean and average as far as hotels go the big thing for me was it was soulless and had not atmosphere.
If you are used to fine dining then you will find the local restaurants appalling to say the least, however there is a lcool little bar on the dock side which looks really local but juan the owner is very hospitable.
Of course everything is a matter of opinion but in my view Roca negra is dull and lifeless ,with average breakfast a pool bar that struggled to serve 5 tables and a couldn't care attitude at reception, on the plus the fishing village is pleasant and the Italian restaurant at Roca was a surprise.

We arrived a week ago, and were greeted very warmly by the lovely receptionist. The hotel was surprisingly impressive, in the most stunning location near the edge of a very picturesque coastline, with its rugged beauty ! The hotel room was very large, clean and zen, and looked out into a beautifully landscaped swimming pool area. The staff were very friendly throughout our stay, and we were looked after. The only thing that the hotel could provide, is a better room service and an a la carte menu in the restaurant. Apart from this, our stay was flawless ! We highly recommend a stay, there !

Room Tip: I possible, ask for a double room on the swimming pool level looking out onto the pool and sea.

We spent a week at this hotel, and chose it based on the reviews we read on Trip Advisor - we weren't disappointed.

The hotel itself is situated in a beautiful peaceful location overlooking the small town Agaete on the northern coast of Gran Canaria. The hotel itself is very clean & modern, all the rooms look out over the swimming pool. The rooms on the ground floor have little patios with direct access to the pool, those on the higher floors have balconies with wonderful sea views. The staff at the hotel were very friendly and helpful, and the food was good. It is a short walk from the hotel down to the sea front at Agaete, and to natural salt water swimming pools. From from the port it is possible to cross by fast boat over to Tenerife one hour away.

We found Agaete a good base to explore the island from, with some spectacular drives along the coast and up into the mountains. Hiring a car if staying at this hotel is highly recommended. The hotel itself is just under an hours drive from the airport, along good roads.

The only negative things I would say about the hotel is that the pool was a bit too cold for us (it was a shame it wasn't heated), and there were no tea & coffee making facilities in the room - but this seems to be the case with most hotels in Europe. We also found the air conditioning a little noisy at night, but this is only a very minor complaint, and it didn't cause us any problems. The weather was generally good, but not as reliable as the weather in the south.

If you want a relaxing peaceful holiday, away from the main tourist hot spots, in a really good hotel then I'd highly recommend this one. It is particularly suitable for couples, or people staying with friends.

Room Tip: Rooms on ground floor have patios with direct access to the pool. Rooms on higher floors have balco...
