“Not coming back again.”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 16 August 2012

I thought the location was excellent. However, i expected alot alot more from a 4 star trip advisor recommended hotel. The service was horrible; the front desk staff were not friendly at all. Although WiFi is free and public, when my phone died & i needed to finalize a booking, they wouldnt let me use their desktop computer for 5 minutes unless i pay 4 euros. Secondly, a 4 star hotel employee tells me that she can not take note of my request for late checkout, i have to call in the morning "BEFORE BREAKFAST TIME (7:30AM) to request late check-out. That's a first. Lastly, i killed a fly in the bathroom that to my surprise was there till the last day. For some reason room service decided to leave it on the bathroom sink.

All in all, i do not recommend this hotel unless your only interest is location which is closness to city center.

In April of 2012 me and my dad spent 5 or 6 nights in the Melia. First impression of the hotel was a definite 4 star accomodation, although a little business-like. The staff were quite nice, their English was so-so but that did seem to be the norm in Alicante. The room was nice although a bit too small for 2 men. Our balcony was fantastic overlooking the beaches. The food was great, lots of it and lots of choice. The focus on breakfast does seem to be on the sweet side, but really can´t complain about it. They have a swimming pool and gym (which are little costly if you ask me) and a table tennis table which needs some TLC but great as we love it. My only gripe really is the bar area. Not cosy at all and very expensive. That could be improved much in terms of atmosphere and the restaurant is massively overpriced for what it is. I suppose that´s part of the deal in chain hotels like these. These are only small issues though in what otherwise is a fine hotel.

Spent 4 nights here in a junior suite on 5th Floor, which entitles you to help yourself to the free bar with branded drinks and tapas in a small lounge area (with balcony) exclusively for guests on 5th floor only. Lovely clean room with a lounge, lovely bathroom and the best bed I've ever slept in away from home. Was disappointed with the balconies (we had 2) as they were really small with limited sun so if you want to be able to sit out, ask for a room with a large one. Had breakfast in main restaurant on 1st day, but was really busy with a long queue to get in so stuck to 5th floor area from then on, and there was a decent selection of food there anyway.
Was a nice hotel between marina and beach though if you are looking for more than a few days and have children, probably not the resort for you - the pool area is small for the size of the place and spends quite a bit of the day in the shade. I'm not sure what you would do apart from beach, though the city is small enough to explore on foot and the handy Alicante guide book we had in our room suggested lots of walks, which we did. Views from Castillo Santa Barbara beautiful. Catch the lift up from the walkway behind the beach.

Tip - bus from airport (C6 bus) only 2.70 euro and stops right outside the Melia. Much cheaper than a taxi!

Room Tip: Ask for beach side for sun in the morning, marina side for sun in the afternoon and evening. Paid ex...

I spent a few nights here from 3rd Aug 2012. We arrived at 11am, the room wasn't ready. The reception staff had the room ready for us by 12.30. Considering you don't have to check out until 12 noon, I thought the wait reasonable. The room was ok and big enough. Mini fridge with water, wine, beer ect, not on a sensor (bottle water 2 euros). No kettle for Tea or Coffee. I took a travel kettle and didn't use it. You have to get tickets from reception for the towels around the pool. Ask when you check in as we had to try and work out how to get the towels, they didn't offer these when we checked in , but knew exactly what we wanted when we turned up at reception the following morning. As this hotel in on the beach you can take these towels to the beach. 12 euros for 2 sunbeds and an umbrella or 8 euros for just the beds. The sea was warm and i didn't see anything nasty floating!! When you take the towels back to the pool you get clean ones. The hotel pool looks ok. However, the sunbeds are taken from early morning. (towel fairies must place towels on the beds of a night!!!!). Good luck in getting a bed around the pool. The breakfast is ok, lots to choose from. We had Carva with fresh orange. You can get more or less anything for breakfast. Its a buffet service and you can have as much as you want. There are some nice restaurants around in the back streets, we were taken for fools at one tapas restaurant, patas bravas came with tomato sauce on them. (not fresh salsa tomato sauce, red sauce out of a bottle) Sometimes you have to laugh.... We wanted to have a late check out. We were told we couldn't request this until the day we were checking out. We got our extended check out until 6pm for 60 euros. As our flight wasn't until 9.30pm, money well spent due to the heat at the time. Not a bad hotel if you don't mind the beach and in a very good location.

Great location right next to the Playa del Postiguet. Also close to a lot of great restaurants and tapas bars (though a touristic area so watch out for the most touristic places). Melia offers a great breakfast. This stay, summer 2012, was our second one (fist time summer 2010). This time they offered free wifi which was good. Unfortunately the wifi had bad connection in the room and you had to be in certain places in the room to even find a connection. Got a balcony with seaview which was amazing.
