“Lovely little town”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 25 April 2012

Brilliant town to visit to enjoy a bit of Spanish scenery on the drive plus an interesting castle with spectacular valley views.

Downside is that coaches are shipped in to it and I imagine that it would be ridiculously busy in the Summer months.

“Charming town, excellent food!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 15 April 2012

We spent a lovely day in Guadalest, a charming little town with a lot of history, about 8 different museums, and a laid-back arty vibe. The surroundings are stunning, with beautiful mountains, a lake, fields with orange trees...and we were lucky enough to go in a quiet day without tourist crowds. One of the best moments though were lunch time. We went to El Tossal restaurant, located up the hill as you enter the town. Amazing food!!! It reminded me of the huge and delicious portions my grandma would cook for big family occasions! In would completely recommend anyone visiting the Alicante region to divert a bit and visit this town.

“Stunning”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 7 April 2012

Enjoy the drive up from the coast through the almond groves and when you get to Guadalest, enjoy the views! A beautiful pueblo, with many artisan shops, and stunning views over the Guadalest Valley and of the ancient fortifications of the old monastery.

“Fantastic views, ideal statring point for hiking”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 6 April 2012

The Castell of Guadalest offers fantastic views on clear days. The area is quite touristic and it's difficult to find some recommendable places to eat/drink. We normally go hiking in the mountains nereby. Drive to the nearby village Benifato and take to the left passing through the village. There is a nice hiking trail (walk for about 2,5 hours) where the road stops at Font de Partegat. Bring a map, warm clothes and some water.

“Very pretty and well worth the trip..pick a clear day”

Day trip to Guardalest

This is the most visited spot on the Costa Blanca and well worth a visit.

Our day out was in glorious weather and the mountain air was fresh but warm.

The road up snakes tirelessly and it's a slow climb especially if you get stuck behind a coach as we did. However, we did get the chance to look back towards the coast and the fantastic views.

We parked up and were charged for the privilege.......and headed into the town.

It is spilt into two parts: inside and outside the fortress or Arrabal. The fortress looks inaccessible and is entered by a tunnel: The San Jose gate. It opens up into a village with cobbled streets, the grand Casa de Orduna (Admission Fee 6€) the church and the cemetery, castle ruins and bell tower at the highest point.

Its picture postcard stuff, with the Castle Square and school, which is still in use.

From here you get a panoramic view of the reservoir which is like surreal green-blue mirror.

It is a delightful walk around the narrow streets and it has a Moorish feel about it.

The Moors choose this place as a stronghold in 1609.

It has touristy shops as well as some bars and restaurants. The latest novelty on offer are the curio museums, from the typical 18th Century house which houses the Ethnological Museum of the Guardalest valley, the Microgiant Museum, the Bethlehem City Museum with its architectural models to the most recent, the Torture Museum.

You can buy handmade lace as well as local produce including honey, nuts, olive oil and preserves.

There are plenty of restaurants on the way to the Town and the best thing to do is to go back that way.

Try Pedros...

Be warned the drive to Alcoi is long, twisty and tedious and not really worth the trip.
