“Lovely view & friendly staff, however....”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 17 March 2012

I got the deal from Groupon Malaysia, and we managed to secure RM688 rate for 3d and 2n stay. We went there during the school holiday recently. Brought our kids along (age 5,3).
Went there during weekdays so, the occupancy wasn't that full.

Upon our arrival here, I have requested several items :
1. Rooms to be closer to the pool (as my children love to jump right in as we arrived there)
2. Upper deck room (i read about the experience having the room at the ground floor wouldn't be desirable as the review stated at tripadvisor.com)
3. Double bed (2 adults, 2 children would be suitable for this)
Thankfully, the demands were fulfill without much hassle.

As I was check-in at the reception, my family was welcomed by the 4glasses of lemonade and cold towels. What a refreshing way to treat the gues. The staffs were friendly and this made us felt comfortable.
We were sent to the room by a buggy car.
The view as we were about to approach the room was breathtaking. It never crossed my mind to have such a pleasant view of the resort.

As we entered the room, first thing to do is to switch on the aircond. Mind you, that the room is bulit from log and located on the 2nd floor, so the temperature was quite warm up there. Earlier, we requested 2set of access card, and we used one of it to make sure that during the day, the fan/air cond was ON and the room would not be too hot.
The bathroom is clean and amenities was ok. The resort even provide the guess with two sets of bathrobes, torchlight, iron and ironing board. Coffee making facilities and minibar.
There were a can of drinks and 2bottles of drinking water in it.

The pools was excellent. clean and well kept. Also, the cabana beside it was an added value, I even had a quick nap, as my 2 son and husband take the plunge at the pool.

The breakfast spread was to our likings. My husband did enjoy eating the food. The menu differs from the day to another. Our trip around the resort, we went to Oasis hall located near to the meeting rooms. The number of koi fish amazed us. The kids were super excited to see the fish and we even bring along a few slices of bread to feed them.
We took the opportunity to walk around the resort and our photograph taken.
*a wonderful place to have a wedding photoshoot here!

Wifi is at its best. My husband even mentioned that the speed at the resort is faster than our streamyx at home. We had a good reception even at the poolside.

HOWEVER,,(here comes the not-so-good sides of the resort)
1. The bedding at the room was not to our likings. We expected the bed to be SUPER-Single sized, insted we had a single bed instead, imaging cramming 4 people into 2 small single bed
T_T

2.On the first day of our arrival, after 45min rest in the room, we went for a dip in our pool. As we came back, we were shocked to see a plate if fresh fruits in our room. There was no NOTEs telling about it. Thus, we were quite worried about the safety of our belongings and decided to ram it into the safebox provided. On the 2nd day, it happened again, this time, our mini bar had beed stacked with bottle drinks and a can of drinks. Yet, no reminder or notes left from the housekeeping about their presence to our room.
* Dear resort, there's nothing wrong of being courteous and leaving a tiny notes telling about your presence to the room, right?

All and all, we are one satistied guess and we hope (with a reasonable rate or another groupon deals with nice offer) would surely bring us back here.
Thank you for a nice hospitality and made us feel welcomed.

Room Tip: 1. choose the ones nearer to the pool 2. Choose upper deck room as you wont hear the footstep above...

I have just enjoyed a one night stay here, meeting up with some malaysian friends after I arrived from the UK the day before. With the groupon deal, the place was quite busy, it looked like I was the only westerner in the whole place!

It is just off the highway and is clearly signposted, but once in the resort, you would not notice the highway was so close, you cannot hear or see it.

This hotel still looks nice and new, the pool setting and landscaping are excellent. The rooms are clean and fresh and had lovely decor and bathrooms. There was an excellent toiletries selection in the bathroom. The bed was super comfortable

The staff were friendly at all times I was there and the breakfast choice was excellent.

My only real disappointment was the sound proofing of the log cabin rooms. I could hear everything spoken at normal volume in perfect clarity through the walls, which was a shame. Luckily the people next door went to bed at a reasonable time and were not too chatty but had they been noisy or late to bed the sound proofing issue could have been ridiculous.

Also, the wi-fi was so weak as to be pretty un-usable, but it was free so nothing lost there!

Room Tip: Just be aware the sound proofing in the semi/d cabins is not good.

Booked rooms through Groupon Malaysia at RM688 for 2 nights. Went with 2 pre-school kids and spouse. Journey was about 200km from Singapore and smooth ride. Once you turn out from Ayer Keroh, you will see signs immediately pointing to Philea. Was opened in May 2010 and staff, from the recep, to the buggy operators and front office were great. Arrived at 10.45am and was hoping to be able to check in early though standard terms were 3pm and was told that guests will check out at 1 plus so earliest will be 2pm. Thought that the resort was empty. Anyway, we went to nearby Jusco and Parkson Ria, about 15 minutes drive away. Not much restaurants but some fast food outlets which were good enough for the kids. These were a little rundown and we watched a Malaysia made movie, Seefood for RM30 for 4 of us and then back in time to check in. Was a little rainy and just spent some time in the resort which was a little dim.

The room and bath room were spacious and as advised by previous visitors, we took the 2nd floor and indeed, the wooden structure meant that the rooms were not really soundproof and everytime someone walks up and down the steps, it can be amplified in the still of the night. There were a higher grade rooms call suites which, according to the hotel map, are those immediately surrounding the pool Pool looks spectacular but the usable area is not too big and the artificial waterfall is just decorative. No kids activities. Main restaurant was closed and only one which served some local and western food call Cravo Cravo. Try the grill codfish. Its one of the better dishes.

Breakfast was good, by Malaysian standards and variety considered extensive with change in menu over the 2 days we stayed there. Another plus point. Flies are inevitable given the weather but manageable. Coffee was also good.

To go to Melaka city area is around 15km but felt like an hour of drive because of the thick traffic, even on a Monday and once you are there, its stuck everywhere. Not sure is it because the Malaysia and Singapore school holidays coincide but didnt see too many kids. So Im sure if its the June holidays, the place will be cluttered up

Decided to give the central a miss. Went back to Philea and saw a local product firm beside the resort. It was one of those which, if you take a tour package, they will put in in one of these shops. Saw lots of tourists and the accompanying buses but didnt feel comfortable in such shops so came out. There is a reptile and snake attraction just behind the resort but we didn't go either. Went to Melaka Wonderland and more a water themepark for the kids. This was also an easy 10 minutes drive. Melaka Zoo was also nearby and wanted to try the Night zoo but apparently operates only on weekends for the night zoo.

There are some hypermarts located all over with abundance of simple shopping. Overall, the place was average, clean, safe, but not much facilities. Not even a convenience shop in the hotel so if you dont drive, better stock up. Nothing in mini bar but as with most hotels in Singapore and Malaysia, there is instant coffee and kettle.

And the wifi signal, though complementary, was so weak my IPOD and notebook couldnt pick up the signals.

If I pay the normal price, I will give it a 2.5 stars but with Groupon's special rates, I will give it 3.5 stars.

Room Tip: Well, everyone says 2nd floor and I didnt have a chance to stay in the 1st, so its probably true. So...

We checked in just for a night since my husband had to attend a meeting somewhere in Melaka. Anyway, as soon as we entered the resort area, we felt very welcomed. Everyone was sincerely smiling. While checking in, we were given cold towel & welcome drinks.

Once we done with the check in, we hopped on the buggy to our room. We booked the king pavilion (upper room) & that was what we got. The room was very clean & very appealing. We loved everything about the room.

Since we were here during weekdays, we hardly see other guests. The kids & I had the pool to ourselves. They have nice cabana by the poolside. I can see that they really take good care of the pool. It was very clean.

Breakfast was yummy & the spread was nice. We even skipped lunch because we were too full after the delicious buffet. While having breakfast, I was politely asked if I would like to have my birthday cake there. Yes, the resort surprised me with a chocolate cake. How thoughtful!

We really love this resort & the staff. My 5yo daughter even told me that she wants to come her for her birthday instead of having a birthday party.

One minor thing though, the WiFi was very-very weak. Maybe they should do something about this.

We'll definitely come back & stay longer next time around :)

Room Tip: The upper pavilion has nice view.

He though it will be nice to chillout at Philea as we when there for banquet dinner before the whole resort are surrounded with forest & resort are built by timber, so last night we just pop in for a drink & some light food at 9:30pm since it’s valentine day.
The concierge are very friendly & we have no problem to find parking even though at that time have many tourist checking in the resort & a few big buses parking around the main entrance. The reception told us there have 1 restaurant, 1 lounge & 1 bar. Since the lounge just next to the reception counter, we find it hard to find a place to sit because tourists are occupied those tables as they waiting their room keys so we decided to walk down stair to the “chillout” Bar, while we walk in, we were upset by the strong cigarate smell around the whole place when he open the door but weird is not even one customer were in there. We not sure if it’s possible 5 mins ago just have 20 peoples have just smoking in there. We sat outside of the bar & try to ask the bar tender if there is any more places in the resort we can order a-la-carte meal & have some cocktail (because He want to eat something & I’m only need a drink). The problem is the staff not even know how many restaurant the resort have, so he start running around to ask & after checking to a few colleague of him then a different staff(look more senior) telling us upstairs have a restaurant name “Kerabu-Kerabu”(grey colour) so we walk up again to the restaurant.
While we reach the restaurant “Cravo-Cravo” we had a good laugh because the restaurant called cravo not kerabu!! Haha. While we enter the restaurant my BF double confirm with the staff if they serve a-la-carte, he replied yes. Next thing when we sat down the waiter start opening a bottle of sparkling wine & said to us it’s compulsory to join in for the set dinner if we dine at the restaurant. We request to talk to the manager and start to felt annoyed by their “relax & blurred” services. The staff said to us “I’m in-charge here & U must take the set”, My BF insist want to talk to his Manager, then the staff request us to change to the side table & he walk away, later they sent another waitress to serve us. We ordered 2 cocktails & He ordered a Burger(I waited half an hour for my drink!!). We ended up with 1 star of service at the “so-called” 5star Resort. I went to many good hotels & resorts in Malaysia before but this gave me the “most experience of No service”! goodless!
