“Best Gateway to the Great Northern Woods”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 10 August 2010

We were looking for a quiet base from which to explore the Great Northern Woods.
We were not disappointed. We found ourselves surrounded by tall pine trees, woods, mountains in the distance and pleasant walks thru the woods. The lodge is comfortable and well kept. A Bose Wave radio/CD player greeted us in our room.

No matter what type of recreation you're looking for, Richard can recommend where to find it. He detailed a route for 2 Northern driving loops; one for each day. We saw moose, mountains, flumes, waterfalls, streams and beauteous scenery each day as we traversed thru both Dixville Notch and Grafton Notch. We walked down trails and inhaled the scent of fresh pine.

We can hardly wait to go back to this lodge for another relaxing visit. It was good for the soul and good for the spirit.

My wife and I (and our dog) stayed a couple of nights here. Originally the trip was to hopefully go dog sledding or snow shoeing but winter was short this year so there wasn't much snow. No worries! Richard pointed us to some nice area hikes and other things to check out. He really knows the area and his pride of being a successful businessman in the community really shows. The lodge is warm, cozy and it's probably the best couple of nights sleep in a long time. Nightime is actually DARK and you can see countless stars. The road is sort of busy by day but since it's so far from town, it's not really noticable. Richard and Sandy are very friendly people and we really left feeling like we stayed with friends and not a B&B. We will definitely be back and would recommend this lodge to anyone wanting to get away in real peace and quiet.

My wife and I spent a relaxing weekend in scenic northern New Hampshire . We had a clean room and a comfortable bed in this Bed & Breakfast style lodge. We were even greeted by deer at our arrival.

Richard was friendly and helpful and made us feel like family.

We participated in their weekend dog sledding tour. It was a blast.

This was a weekend we will remember for years to come and highly recommend it.

Great Northern Moose Lodge is a great place to experience the part of New Hampshire which has maintained the history and nastolgia of days gone by. For those who have not experienced this pristine corner of NH, it would be well worth the while to spend some time with Richard and his family. We can not say enough about how pleasant our stay was and how accommodating they were. I was at the lodge for hunting with my wife and every morning Richard was up making sure coffee was on and I had breakfast. I might mention it was 4:30 a.m. when he was doing this. This was way over and above my expectations of a B & B. If you are looking for 5Star accomodations with spa, pool, etc- this is not it but if you are looking for the pleaseant company of people who care and a clean cozy rustic atmosphere with a fire in the hearth when you come in - you've found it. Plus he makeas a darn good blueberry bread! We will definitely go visit them again!

Prior to our arrival, Richard Tessier, the owner and manager of the Great Northern Moose Lodge, had assisted me with my trip plans through my phone calls. He was very helpful. His knowledge of the best roads for photo opportunities enhanced our trip experience. We would have missed so much without his help.

Upon our arrival, we were met by Richard, who graciously offered to assist us with our luggage. It was only about 7:30, but already it was pitch dark outside. We had arrived later than we had hoped, and we hadn't wanted to make it later by stopping to eat. Learning that we hadn't eaten, Richard phoned the nearest restaurant to inquire if they were still open. Since they were already closed for the night, Richard explained the directions to another restaurant. As he talked, I spotted a sign behind him listing types of ice cream. Being more tired than hungry, we decided to relax with ice cream.

As Richard prepared the cones, we sat in the common area on a soft, comforty leather sofa. The large room was appropriately decorated in a lodge motif. Richard had built a fire in the large fireplace. The warmth from the fire was very soothing to our tired spirits. When Richard brought us our cones, he joined us, discussing our day's adventure and our trip plans. Richard works extensively with area tourism to enhance the total experience for tourists. In the fall, he is one of the area's leaf peepers. In the winter, he brings in dog sled teams for those who want to see the area by taking to the trails.

As we talked, Richard's wife, Sandy, joined us. Their changing a former hunting and fishing lodge into a bed and breakfast shows how insightful they are with the changes in tourism. The entire lodge is very tastefully decorated. We chose the "fishing hole" for our night's stay. This room, decorated with fishing decor and duck decoys, featured a queen sized bed and a small, private in suite bathroom with a shower, toilet, and sink. The room was very comfortable and cozy.

The next morning, we were awakened to the aroma of fresh brewed coffee. Our breakfast was included in our lodging price. We ate in the combined kitchen/ dining area. Our breakfast was an extended continental breakfast consisting of bagels with creamed cheese, various pastries, hot and cold cereals, and assorted fruits.

Off from the dining area was a small gift shop. It featured items that were representative of the area along with angels and some craft items. I was excited to find some special crafts to take home to do with our granddaughter.

As we departed, we left behind our new friends, but we know that we will return.
