I was eager to go to Severin. I had quite a liking for it. Unfortunately our first day was met with rude front office people who had no courtesy to apologize and try to sort the mess they made. Instead we were met with silence and a bit of sneers then more silence. Ps We are Kenyan Hoteliers, We not only understood what they were muttering underneath their breaths but could read their faces. They first asked if we were joining anyone for the stay and after the surprise that we could afford to pay for ourselves, they "courteosuly" asked how much we paid for the trip! I guess money matters. Only one person helped us. We were not shown where meals were and figured staff out on our own. Breakfast the following day was disappointing (and dinner), the staff kept looking at us and down right ignoring as we waved, said excuse me. The answer we got is "we are busy so its not ignoring" I work in a restaurant that is totally not the answer to give. Breakfast chef was eager to serve bacon and ask egg orders to others as I stood there looking and waiting for my turn. ! SEVERIN staff are quite prejudistic against africans I would say. For anyone hoping to stay here I hope you do not get to experience this sort of internalized racism better have money I guess! Severin pull up your socks! Domestic tourists are also tourists. Never going there again for sure.

The best thing about the lodge is the location. You can have your feet on the beach in less than a minute. The room was small but adequate and the air condition worked well. The mosquito netting supplied did the job and I recommend using it. The food served at the restaurant was ok. The staff at the hotel was very nice and my family and I felt very comfortable at the hotel.

What I didn't like was the wifi reception. They need to get a professional to look at the wifi and make some changes so the signal is available in all areas. It's soooooo frustrating to sit in your room and want to check email and you have "1 bar" which drops out constantly. The hotel does have a "internet computer" that you can use which was awesome but it's a public machine so I didn't feel comfortable using it for email and other personal stuff.

As soon as you step on the beach, you are approached by people selling all kinds of stuff and they ask all the usual questions. Where are your from, where are you going, how long are you gonna be here. I found them to be more of a nuisance than anything else but I didn't have any problems getting rid of them.

Having said all that, I would come back to this lodge and Mombasa.

Jambo Brian, sunny greetings from Kenya!

It’s a pleasure to read that you have enjoyed your stay at Severin Sea Lodge with your family very much! Thanks a lot for your great comments regarding our staff and our location! We are glad that you and your family are so satisfied with our service and food that you felt very comfortable during your holiday and would come back to Severin Sea Lodge again!
We wish to apologize to you that the Wi-Fi connection in your room didn’t work perfectly. Fortunately we are in good expectation to provide you a satisfying connection for your next stay at Severin Sea Lodge because we gave our internet connection provider the task of increasing on the bandwidth to be able to cope up with the increasing number of internet users in our Hotel. You can therefore be rest assured that the internet connectivity in the rooms will be fast to your expectation to have a comfortable and private access to the internet with your own laptop or mobile phone.
Regarding your annoying experience with some beach boys who tried to sell you articles we also wish to apologize. Due to the Bamburi Beach is a public place, we cannot forbid that some locals try to talk with our guests because they see an opportunity to feed their families by selling souvenirs or fresh fruits. But you have been acting right. A friendly ‘no’ is sufficient to show them that you are not interested.

Thank you a lot for your good and honest feedback and the whole Severin Team is looking forward to welcoming you again in our hotel! Karibu!

Best regards,

This hotel is in a beautiful location with a great beach. The staff is amazingly enthusiastic. There are two pools, which are very clean and several restaurants. The breakfast buffet has a nice, large spread. Plenty for omnivores and herbivores alike.
We stayed in a large triple room with a nice sized bathroom. The water was hot, with good pressure and the AC cold. Cheap local massage and dinner are available close by.
The bad: wifi was slow and spotty, only working in certain places on the property. The hotel has no signage on the main road and our driver had to call twice for directions. There are many hawkers on the beach, but security keeps an eye on hotel patrons. Wildlife is abundant and includes monkeys, lizards, cats, crows, and other creepy crawlies. Use the mosquito nets provided and bring bug spray.

Dear littlepistol,

Thanks for your comments on the Trip Advisor review in regards to your stay in our hotel during your holidays. We are indeed delighted to learn through your review that you were very happy with the services, facilities and the general ambience of the hotel which is adorned with nature, consisting of friendly wildlife as illustrated in your review.

We have also taken note the negative observations regarding the slow Wifi connection within the hotel compound and the non-existence of the hotel signage at the main road. Firstly we wish to apologize to you for the inconvenience experienced due to poor Wifi connection during your stay and wish to let you know that we have already taken action to alleviate the situation by engaging our internet connection provider to undertake an increase on the bandwidth to be able to cope up with the increasing number of internet users. You can therefore be rest assured that the internet connectivity will be fast to your expectation.

In regards to the signage at the main gate, we wish to sincerely apologize for what you went through in trying to find the location of our hotel due to the fact that there was no signage. We actually had a signage indicating the location of the hotel, unfortunately some unscrupulous thugs vandalized our signage on a particular day late after mid-night along with our sister hotels signage. We took some time to be able to come up with a strong, visible, long lasting and professionally structured signage which will be on site at the main road in less than a week’s time from today.

It is our hope that you will consider staying with us again and recommend our hotel to your friends and colleagues. Once again we wish to assure you of best of our services at all times during your stay.

Best regards

I recently organized a group of 16 people to stay at the Severin for three nights in March 2017. The management was great in timely answering all of my questions and concerns in organizing the group. The hotel is beautiful with amazing views of the beach, and the property was inviting and definitely felt like a retreat. We also went on the City Tour with a fabulous tour guide named Hare, who was great at accommodating our (sometimes slow to walk!) group in showing us everything we wanted to see. It was certainly affordable, the staff was so kind and attentive, and I will definitely becoming back here on my own.

Dear HBLSAA,

Thanks again for choosing our Severin Sea Lodge for your group in March 17.

We are very pleased to hear that you and your guests enjoyed your stay with us at Severin Sea Lodge and the city tour we organized for you.
We will pass your comments to our colleague Hare. Besides our special city tour we have some other well selected excursions you can book with us, for example our “Secrets of the Coast” tour including the beautiful city of Malidi and Gede, where you can experience the old Swahili culture within the medieval ruins.

We are looking forward to welcoming you again in our hotel!

Sunny greatings from Mombasa

We spent a night at Severin Sea Lodge on our way down to a more remote location down the coast and can recommend it as a good value and well located hotel near to the city of Mombasa. The lodge was larger than we had anticipated, with a lot of tourists from Europe (mainly Germany), several pools and a large dining area overlooking the sea. The rooms were a little tired but have everything you need and the staff were very helpful and kind. We were slightly put off by the very loud background music and entertainment, but maybe that was just a one-off for the Christmas season.

Dear Sevillanita.

Thanks for choosing our Severin Sea Lodge for your short stay on your way to the south. We are happy that you enjoyed your stay with us.

Yes, our hotel offers almost 200 rooms, however due to the nice architecture, the large gardens and the bungalow style of the hotel everyone can find a place to relax here. We have taken note of the comments regarding the loud music. We have a live band at the hotel once a week, maybe that was on the day you stayed with us.
Otherwise the entertainment is reasonable and not disturbing at all.

Next time please try our romantic dinner on the remote roof top terrace or the dinner on our original Imani Dhow.

We will pass your positive comments about our staff to our colleagues and are looking forward to your next stay with us.

Sunny regards from Mombasa
