We ate at the Sporty last night, and the food was absolutely superb. Without a doubt the tastiest hake I have ever had. The service is superb, and we were made to feel very welcome. I love this pub. Colin and Leesa have done a wonderful job.

Despite it being a busy bank holiday Sunday and us not having booked we were shown to a table and made to feel very welcome. All four of us had a roast from the specials roast menu priced at £9.95 each and were pleasantly surprised (2 beef and 2 roasted butternut squash served with roast potatoes and roast vegetables). The portion size of the roast vegetables was a little on the small side for 4 adults having been for a good long walk but when we asked for more another small selection was happily provided. The food was beautifully cooked, very tasty and we would certainly return if we were in the area again. Probably best to book a table in advance too.

We as in family. Arrived at the beautiful refurbished pub, to be met with smiling friendly faces. As always on our visits. The pub looks lovely and inviting with a very welcoming atmosphere. While waiting to be served at the bar, there was a family complaining to her husband why they couldn't get a table to eat, as there was some free . If she would have asked the staff politely am sure they would have told her that they where reserved as I did. I was happy to wait for a table, didn't want to miss out on the chance to eat here. Yes you can just walk in, bit of advice, if you don't want to miss out on your visit on busy days, book in advance people, well worth a visit !

We popped in for lunch after seeing The Sportsman had reopened after being closed for refurbishment - it looks lovely, rustic and modern if thats possible. Clean and very tasteful fixtures and fittings.
It was pretty quiet and we got a nice table near a cosy open fire.
I had a scrummy pannini filled with goat cheese and salami and pesto, home cooked chips with nicely dressed salad, my other half had a black and blue burger which was fresh and tasty - we both completely emptied our plates which is always a great sign.
We have been here many times but have to say the changes are very very good and would highly recommend.

Had a day walking in the hills, afterwards visited The Sportsman for a drink and Sunday lunch. All staff were very friendly and helpful. The place looks great and the food was superb. We will definitely return
