The CMDC is by far the best of an admittedly small number of options for staying overnight at Cranfield University. The building, surrounded by its 3 large car parks, is located at the north-eastern edge of the campus, well within walking distance of any part of the University, and as a result it is a very quiet location for an overnight stay....but it's not cheap - BUT it is cheaper than an equivalent hotel in Bedford or Milton Keynes plus a taxi after a social in the CMDC's excellent bar. And the bar isn't the only thing that CMDC has going for it....

The design of the building means that there are lots of nooks & crannies, with soft seating and areas to work, scattered off the main forum. The large dining rooms were plenty big enough for the large number of guests that the building can hold - lots of guests primarily because the rooms are so small. However, as other reviewers have stated, the rooms are perfectly functional, with excellent beds and powerful showers...albeit my sleep was compromise somewhat by the aforementioned social in the bar!!

What made this venue stand out was the quality of the food and the professionalism of the staff. The choice of buffet breakfast was superb and the dining room staff were extremely quick to provide tea, coffee and fresh toast. Dinner was better yet, albeit we were fortunate enough to have a group meal in one of the CMDC's private dining rooms - the standard of cooking, presentation and service was on par with some of the best restaurants that I have seen.

Overall, this stay was a really nice surprise...I wasn't expecting much (just being on campus was good enough) but the food, in particular, surpassed expectations. Yes the rooms could have been bigger but, as it turned out, I spent surprisingly little time in there!!...and the bar is nice, did I mention that?!!

Room tip: Rooms looking East over the airfield get a nice view

I stayed for two nights as part of a group book (motoring club) Food excellent, delicious breakfast, the bedrooms are a little on the smaller size, but perfectly formed and very comfortable. The bed was very comfortable and ensured two good nights sleep. I would love to go back if I'm in the area.

A pleasant one night stay. A tad difficult to find when arriving at night, but the helpful Molly on reception guided me in over the phone. Check-in was painless and quick.

The room was perfectly adequate, not the largest but clean and well though out.

A small pool and sauna in the same building, lockers don't work.

Good selection of drinks in the bar and professional staff, I found the price of dinner astounding though, £30 for a 3 course buffet? With that I walked to the "College Arms' down the round, near a small store and bank. The pub is slightly bizarre with 'Uncle Lim's' Chinese restaurant inside. Great food, and reasonably priced too.

Breakfast was fantastic, smoked salmon, fruits, cooked, you name it. £69 b&b is great value, not so the on-site restaurant. The noise from the corridors could be quite loud.

Going to Cranfield you do not expect 5 star service and luxurious stay. However, CMDC is an absolute delight. The staff is friendly and rooms are clean and well equipped. Best place to stay is you are visiting Cranfield university.
