“Quentissential, comfortable, well-located Umbrian holiday villa”

Tartagli Bassi is the perfect venue for a Tuscan/Umbrian holiday. The historic stone house has all the necessary comforts -- gourmet kitchen, modern baths, laundry facilities and wifi -- while retaining the charm of an Umbrian villa, with antique furnishings, outdoor dining and a lovely pool. The separate apartments on the ground and first floors accommodated our several families conveniently. The hilltop location is picturesque and quiet, although an easy 5 minute walk into the village with shops and restaurants. The owner's info package about the house and local places of interest was very helpful, and the local manager's 24/7 accessibility and extremely knowledgeable suggestions and assistance were invaluable. The location was perfect for day trips to wineries and medieval cities. One highlight of our visit was a special 80th birthday dinner at the villa thanks to local chef Tonino, who taught a fun lesson in pasta making that was the highlight of the trip for the younger kids and then prepared an amazing farm-to-table gourmet dinner. We'll return to this magical place in the future.

“We'll be back”
Reviewed 9 May 2014 for a stay in May 2014

We rented the the top half of the house for two weeks in late April / early May. We found the house, rooms and furnishings to be clean, comfortable, and more than adequate. It has a rural ambiance and feel that suited our tastes and needs. The caretaker was delightful, helpful and quickly responded to our phone calls, emails and text messages.

The location is quiet and beautiful, with plenty of glorious vistas and places to walk in a nearby forest and olive orchard. A five minute walk takes you to the village of Paciano, which we found to be friendly with a good place to get a morning coffee (Bar Bordini) and a nice family restaurant we ate at several times (L'Oca Bruciata). A slightly larger village, Panecale, was a pleasant hour stroll away.

We had a car and suggest you have one as well to have reasonable access to nearby towns for rail service (Chiusi) and major food shopping trips (Castiglione del Lago).

If you enjoy walking, are comfortable with a few stairs and minor hills, then you'll be happy. If you use a walker or wheelchair, this house will provide some challenges.

If you want to visit a quiet and beautiful part of Italy that is relatively unspoiled, this is a great place. If you're looking for an opulent villa with quick access to fancy restaurants, shops and other high end tourist amenities, you may find the location a bit woodsy for your tastes.
