We stayed at the Palm for the final few nights of our month-long honeymoon, split between Mauritius & Reunion. We choose the Palm for its 5 stars as a special treat.

Having spent 4 weeks in this region we were now accustomed to the extremely high food prices & lack of overall food quality. The Palm met these same expectations to a degree - the food is eye wateringly expensive. If you eat in their Tapas bar the quality is truly AWFUL - however, if you eat in their cheffed restaurants (which is fine dining), the quality is very good and worth the high price - but only just! And also only if you’re into this style of dining (we’re not really, but happy for the experience over a short period of time).

Besides the food, the Palm has a number of good qualities. The service, the car valet and the beautiful cliff-top setting with special touches like whale watching. I must also make a noble mention of therapist SHIVA who works in the on site Akea Spa, I had a massage with him and it was truly sensational!

However there are some down sides to the hotel. The rooms are dated and sadly do not give you the feeling that you’re in a 5 star resort. For example, I expected some beautiful complimentary toiletries (shampoo ect) but instead it’s just a sad looking pump on the shower wall! The Grand Anse beach is 15 mins away although it isn’t particularly scenic (this is true of most Reunion beaches!). Finally, there was also an unpleasant smell of manure around the hotel during the evenings - it meant we didn’t want to sit on our balcony. I think the hotel may be located near a farm or other agricultural building?

In general the hotel just lacked a bit of the wow factor which you want, considering the prices paid.

That all said I had an enjoyable & memorable stay, but I would not agree with the 5 star rating.

We stayed in a Pool Lodge room at the Palm for two weeks as part of our honeymoon, and we couldn't have picked a better spot. The room itself was absolutely incredible (the photos don't do it justice), we loved the on-site bar and restaurant and the bell that would sound every time a passing whale was visible from the observation deck, and Grand Anse beach (which turned out to be our favorite one on the island) was only a quick 10-minute walk from the property.

Everyone at the hotel, from the front desk staff and the concierge team to the restaurant staff, spa staff, and housekeeping staff, were wonderful, and went out of their way to make sure that we had a comfortable and relaxing stay, even with our minimal French. We'll definitely be staying here again the next time that we're in Réunion.

Room tip: If a Lodge or Pool Lodge is within your budget, go for it--you won't regret it.

We had a great stay at the Palm. Excellent facilities and very helpful and friendly staff that could assist in English.

Wide selection of drinks and food, excellent views to Grande Anse beach and scrumptious breakfast!!

Good location for a South Reunion Experience, staff very knowledgeable as to tourist excursions and sights. They were also giving great tips as to the excursions etc.

Could also note their commitment to the Ecolable Ethos.

Would highly recommend!!

We stayed in this hotel for 5 nights.
Overall, we 've stayed several times in 4 star hotels at other locations, the level at Réunion seems to be lower anyhow.
Compared to other hotels in la Réunion, Palm Hotel seemed to be the better one: better maintained, more stylish, more service from the staff.
We received an upgrade to a junior suite, which was a really pleasant surprise as it came with a hottub outside, an extra room/bed and an outside shower.
Definitely, this contributed to the positive overall experience.

The hotel is beautifully located, although no direct access to the beach below.
For the brave, there is an adventurous path downhill (and back up again afterwards) which I did two times. Not to try if you have no proper shoes nor long pants!
But if you do this, you can continue to hike up to the "cap" which delivers magnificent views and I definitely recommend.
When we booked this hotel, a shuttle service was posted, although i didnt see it.

Staying here we opted for the half board, which we wouldnt do again if we would have known.
Personally, we dont have to fine dine "french cuisine" every day, we would have rather opted for a light salad or something.
This was our main challenge at this hotel: lunch as well as dinner offered very few "light" options, basically there were almost no salads or a light pasta on neither menus.
The only option for lunch or light dinner that remained were the tapas (they were very good!).
We missed truly, during our entire trip at Reunion, "light" dishes with vegetables.

So my recommendation would be Palm hotel to think about offering for lunch and dinner some international, "summery" dishes also, for those not interested in duck, foie gras, fish or beef on a daily basis.
Dont misunderstand me, the food was good, it was just too heavy for our way of living.

We spent a few days here. The staff is friendly, the food very good, breakfast offers plenty of choice (cooked) and the swimming pools are great.
Traffic in the area is very busy, with lots of traffic jams, but the hotel can't change that.

The nearby beach is worth a visit, but I would take the car (good carpark) as the "walk" is very sporty
