We booked this hotel for Oktoberfest in May. At the time, it was showing as the most reasonably priced option that was on the S1 / S8 train line to Munich (and near the airport).
Even if one rented a car (there is parking at the hotel), I wouldn't consider this a good option for seeing Munich. There is (thankfully!) a 3x an hour bus from/to the airport from Freising but the 'glitch' comes in getting from Freising to Langenbach. This can be done by train, which, on weekends, stops at Langenbach only once every two hours. Further, the cost of the Metro pass that incorporates all the zones that include Munich is 9.80 Euro per person. I found myself looking longingly at Mercure and another near-the-airport chain, wondering just how much more these had cost when, in May, I had made my booking. One was within a walk of the airport, the second most certainly would have had an airport shuttle. As Jim joined me late on a Friday night, I found I had to go back to the airport to meet him in order to help HIM find this hotel. Even so, the last train from Freising to Langenboch left at appx.9:15 p.m. so we ended up needing a 20 Euro taxi for those last 10 kilometers. On Saturday, on our way to Oktoberfest, not only were we confused about the frequency of (weekend) trains, another family of 6 were left standing on the tracks for an hour ! Fortunately, we returned to the hotel, who kindly produced and explained the train schedule. Still, we had a long delay when, around 4 p.m., we wanted to get back to the hotel and in Munich missed 'the' S1/S8 that would have dove-tailed with the Freising to Langenboch train. The hotel is about a 7 minute walk from the Langenboch station which could also be a pain in inclement weather.
All this being said, the hotel itself was clean, if nondescript, the staff was friendly and allowed me to check in before the stated hour when I arrived, bedgragled, from almost 24 hours of travel. There is a grocery in town that was still open at around 7:30 p.m. so that we could get a 'picnic' to eat in our room. The restaurant seemed pleasant enough, though not inexpensive and fortunately, the rooms are enough apart and soundproofed so that noise was never an issue. The breakfast was ample and pleasant and our host's touches of autumn decor were charming.
If you are in a car and in this area i would recommend this hotel, but for Oktoberfest ... or a trip that includes seeing Munich...seek a closer option!
