We went on this ropeway in the evening. It was beautiful experience of about 4 km long ropeway journey, in a cable car, moving through the forest almost touching the top of the tall trees longing to touch the sky. It became a little cloudy, windy and chilled when we reached Auli. Auli is at an altitude 3049 mts and is considered to be one of the best and sought after places for skiing in India with all the required facilities. Unfortunately, there was no snow when we visited. We were surrounded by mountains, many of them were covered with snow on top. We were told, when the sky is clear, Nanda Devi, the 2nd tallest mountain in India becomes visible from Auli.
Not too different than any other gondola. The views are quite nice. I don't recall the price, but I think it was about $12 for an adult. The ride was relatively quick, taking about 15 minutes in total.
The Ropeway from Joshimath to Auli, is probably one of the longest ropeways with ride length of 4.5 kms covered in 22 minutes. Its one of the must to enjoy the overview of Joshimath town and Auli Ski town. The last ride is at 4:20pm from Joshimath and costs around Rs 700/person.
