We rented this house as a base for a walking trip. The website looked good but the house is even better. We arrived late due to a flight delay and got to the house in the dark. However the house was warm, clean and ready to go with fresh towels etc. laid out for us. The views from the house are breath-taking. The kitchen is well appointed and we were able to cook some good meals.
We stocked up with food before we left Inverness but there is a small shop in Carbost for basic provisions. The pub is excellent with a big fire going. They do great locally sourced food. They also sell a local beer brewed only five miles away called 'Pinnacle' that is superb.
If you enjoy stunning views, peace and quiet, and completely getting away from the usual stresses of life then get yourself to Calath. It will do you the world of good.
It is about two and a half hours drive from Inverness airport but one of the nicest drives I've ever done. Very fast roads with great views all the way.
We stayed here a few years ago (before I joined Trip Advisor) and it was an absolutely amazing experience. This is the most beautiful self-catering place I've ever stayed: views of the Cuillin from the living room, the loch right outside and a stunning, clean and modern interior. I honestly can't fault it. We had a brilliant stay and it was worth every penny. Check out the connoisseurs tour at Talisker too...although you will need to walk/stumble back!
Had a fantastic time in Calath! The house is beautifully presented with plenty of room for the seven people who attended. The views of the mountains and the loch are splendid!!! Skye itself is a magical place... Thoroughly recommend going there!!!
Calath is simply the best holiday cottage I've stayed in. The cottage is comfortable, spacious, well equipped (kitchen, laundry room, bathrooms) and the location & views could not be better.
Situated about a mile up the hill from Carbost it has fine views of the Cuillin mountains and Loch Harport while at the same time being a short stroll into the village. When the weather is fine there's a terrace off the dining room overlooking the loch and if you're inside the lounge & dining rooms have huge windows for fabulous views.
The choice of a large double-ended bath downstairs or a spacious and powerful shower upstairs is nice. The beds are very comfortable and the location very quiet at night. One thing to bear in mind in summer is that Skye doesn't get very dark at night being so far north - if you need it dark to sleep bring an eye mask.
Booking and paying is very straighforward and the owner, Alan, is very helpful with local information. All in all I can't wait to get back to Calath and Skye!
