This museum gives good iformation about steel and coal industrie informer times. The Complete plant was disassembled from Chinese workers and transfered to Chine. There it is still working. In germany the plant was not anymore feasible. 18.000 workers lost there job. But they stay still in Hattingen in their company own houses and have mostly changed their job. The training program was financed by the goverment and the steel copany.

A fantastic place for all those "how does it work" freaks. A perfect explanation for young and old on how blast furnace works - from the train station where iron ore gets delivered to the ready product.

Additionally fantastic kids playground.

Having done quite a few of the Ruhr Valley museums we thought a steel museum would help piece together the story of coal and energy in the valley. Wow this place is great. You wander through the bunkers and follow the path of the raw materials to the blast furnace. A lift takes you to the top of this now fossil of industry and the blast furnace. Great views of how industry changed the world. At the bottom the flow of the steel path is visible and amazing to think this is our recent history and the closest we have been to such an amazing man made structure. There is a kids trail with a blue mouse to help and a very posh restaurant with views of the machines.

A former steel-plant, now a museum. You can walk through the factory, up the hochofen. Great if you like steel-making history and everything they needed to do this. Good restaurant too and the machinenhalle is likely to open up next year.
