I have visited this place very often. And I am always happy to come back. This time I walked down four kilometers and was tired enough to ask of a cup of tea. Somebody asked me to sit on the open terrace, but I preferred the small dinning hall. The reason is its decor. You find paintings of flowers, birds, butterflies and so on. No crowds at any time, but lot of warmth around. Soon the staff recognized me. The place has memory for those who come here more than once. The tea was great, The friendly manager Mr Singh, came to meet me and we had a little chat about the weather and new building coming around in Ramgarh.
In the evening, I and my son, came to collect food that we had ordered on the phone. Than we noticed, the other guests entertaining themselves with bone fire on the open ground. It was chilly of course, in the middle of summer! We bought some fruit products as well. Food was excellent.
This time, I did not stay here, only made use of the restaurant. But the place was packed. I am sure the room service would be good, but the tea service in the dinning room was great.

we stayed at the English room ( old Bunglow) for 2 days in April first week. I will start with the positives first:-

1) tastefully decorated room with the heritage furniture and paintings
2) NIce and clean bathroom
3) very comfortable bed excellent sleep quality
4) room has a fire place which can be used
5) breakfast and food is good but expensive

Negatives:-
1) Staying In English rooms gives you no view of the valley and the hills
2) the property " old bunglow" has no open spaces to gaze the views around
3) the property is located in middle of the Ramgarh village and if you strall out of the hotel you need to go through the village with the Dogs barking at you

the location is good as it gives you breathtaking view of the valley if you strall out of the hotel premises. Staff is ok not great they seem untrained.

choose Ashok vatika or the writers bungalow instead

Ramgarh is in the fruit bowl of Kumaon , and the place is surrounded by apple, peach and plum orchards. It's a 30-45 min drive from Nainital, and is a peaceful little village with none of the noisy crowds of Nainital or Bhimtal.
We stayed at the Writer's Bungalow for 3 nights with a 2.5 year old child , and had a really great time.
The rooms and bathrooms are very spacious, and tastefully decorated. We were in the bird room , and the walls are decorated with prints of the birds of India. The furnishings and decorations are very subtle and sophisticated in taste.
The food is good, if a tad oily at times. The best part is the breakfast served out in the lawns , eating hot buttered toast washed down with Rhododendron juice , in the shadow of the Himalayas, while listening to bulbuls and barbets singing away to glory , refreshes you like nothing else.
Service by Sandeep and Suresh , was excellent and unobtrusive, and they try hard to meet all reasonable demands.
There are some good walks in the vicinity , one must do the light trek to Talla Ramgarh and the river valley , which is challenging on the way back up.
There is good opportunity for birding in the vicinity , the orchard behind Writer's Bungalow which leads up to Ashok Vatika would be a good place to start. It is full of warblers, streaked laughingthrushes, great barbets , tits and a few flycatchers and bulbuls. I even saw a Indian Hare !
Nainital , Bhimtal , Sattal . Kainchidham etc are all a short 30-45 min drive away.
I would recommend staying here over the hideously crowded lake towns.
