This motel is in a lovely spot, right opposite the beach and near a pub and other eating places. The rooms are comfortable but not very big, at least the one we were in wasn't. They are clean. There is a lovely place to eat at the top of the hill (you'd have to drive there) with fantastic views of the sand dunes and sea - on the way to the motel from the south. Sorry, can't remember the name of it but worth a look. The motel is fairly priced.

This was our farthest north stop in New Zealand, and the location of this motel is lovely (in spite of the rain). The great sand dunes are just across the water. There's a funny little lighthouse out in front, the beach is beautiful just across the road, the rooms are comfortable with kitchens and there was a big blooming hibiscis tree out the back door. it's very convenient for a visit to the Kauri forests or as a stop for heading farther north (next time!).

Room Tip: ask for the best view--many are blocked by the other building

We stayed in a 2 bedroom unit. It was clean and tidy. Decor was in-offensive. Beds weren't uncomfortable.

A set of sliding doors opened out to a little deck.

It was easy to find, convenient to walk to the beach and the local shop(s).

There was a bit of noise from the other units. Walls must have been on the thin side.

Most redeeming feature was that it really was clean.

The rooms are very clean. That is about the only redeeming feature of this motel. I don't know if it's the remoteness or not, but the place just doesn't appeal.
We arrived to be told that there was only a two bedroom unit available.....but we could have it for the single room price if we slept together in one room. Luckily we could.
A few Northland motels seem to be on a kick of saving water....mainly in the shower. The shower here has the least amount of water pressure I have ever experienced. By the time the water has made it's way from the showerhead to my back it was cold. Felt like I was being breathed on rather than washed.
The lounge furniture....well two chairs that belong in a dentist waiting room and two chairs from the 70's. Uncomfortable and definitely not what you need to unwind after a long drive. The rooms are also very noisy, with the road close by you have the occasional vehicle rumble past, but also the movement in the adjoining unit echoes through your room
There was no heating in the unit, which on the middle of winter was slightly worrying but on request we
were given a brand new fan heater.
As I have stated earlier the room was exceptionally clean which was very good
