We stayed here for 2 nights and although it's not one of the beautiful water front hotels, it's in a great location with short walk to the Main Street. You won't be paying a bomb to stay here and it has the basic amenities you need on an island we spent most of our time exploring anyway!

The staff were friendly who arranged a collection from the airport without us even requesting one (pleasant suprise!), while we flew out at 11pm the day we checked out and they didn't have our room occupied after us, they were very kind in letting us stay in the room as long as we liked, free of charge.

Pickup at the airport was late, waited there for quite some time.
When the guy finally came there was not enough room on the transport to take everyone so we had to wait with our group again..
The guys attitude was lax and not caring, ideal for the start of a trip.

Once arrived in our 'room' we noticed it was a converted garage into something with a living room and 2 bedrooms. The living has no windows what so ever so it doesnt even feel comfortable to be in. If you pull the cover from the couch you can see a couch that my late grandmother could have bought in her young years.

Inspecting the kitchen we found a dirty dish. When you find one there will be more so we went to the reception to report this. Instead of apologizing for this and admitting the mistake (You do offer a service no?) he tried to make it our fault and continued to ask why we make a problem of a dirty dish. If common hygiene is a problem don't run a business.. During the discussion the dish disappeared with an employee and he asked about which dish it was concerning. 'What dish?' he asked.. knowing we didn't have it anymore this guy felt great empowered in his own lie. Another popular excuse was 'i'm not the owner, cant do that'.

The shower didnt have warm water for the first hour to heat and this continued most of our stay. One day we even had no water at all. + the showers are nasty and unpleasant to stand in.

The matras and blankets felt like those of an acient past. Ready to throw out.

Apart from that there was a sticker in the kitching pointing to a WIFI network + the password. When entering the pw is says key invalid. We had to take about an hour to explain the guy that is was not working and only then he eventually the correct key. Finally happy as we where we entered the correct password to find out that the reach of the network does not reach to our room and when it did it was with speed of the old 125k modem. You know those dial boxes that made noise when you entered the internet.

We made it our mission during the vacation to spent as little time possible inside that nightmare of a cabanas. It was really unfortunate to arrive in this place cause you start thinking 'will everyone on this island have the same mentality as this guy?'.

Luckily every other person we met was the total oposit. We met a guy renting out another cabanas and we had the best time there. We went fishing with him on the locals way and held a big fish bbq feast at night. If you wanna stay on the island I highly recommend Napohe cabanas. Google this one its worth it.

And whatever you do pls avoid Moenga cause they just don't deserve it.
They even show pictures online of rooms that are not even there.
The guy is triving on delusion and ripping of tourists where there are so many other honorable islanders willing to give you the best experience possible.

People like the guy from moenga should not come in contact with customers..
or maybe even people in general.

Thank god he lives on a small island..

One tip if you want to enjoy Rapa Nui fully: find another place to stay. Especially our encounter with the manager of Moenga, Mathias, partly ruined our experience at Easter Island and left us with mixed feelings. Which is a shame, because for us it was probably a once in a lifetime trip.

Moenga is cheap and close to the town, but everything is since there's only one town. And looking around on the island there really are other places that are cheap too and in better condition.
Anyway, accommodation was very basic, which was okay for us, but we were put in some kind of garage... We didn't have windows, it didn't look anything like the pictures they show on the booking site. That's just not fair.
Transfer for the airport was free. So that was nice. Arriving there, we didn't have hot water in the shower, no WiFi and the plates in the kitchen were dirty (still food sticking to it). Informing the manager, he first lied about the WiFi being optional, then saying the WiFi just had a bad signal, before actually fixing it for us. He checked the water in the shower, which was hot now after turning it on for 15 minutes.. What a waste. And about the plates, he just told us that if we wanted accommodation that was totally clean for the money we pay him, we should just go somewhere else... Like what the hell?! How about caring about your guests? We informed him very polite and friendly. If you have any pride as an owner you take care of things like this. But it seems like he just doesn't care.
No, if I ever make it back to easter Island, I'll stay somewhere else. That's for sure.

Rapanui is expensive. This place offered some of the cheapest accommodation. The cabanas are very basic but beds are comfortable and the place reasonably clean. We couldn't manage to get hot water in the shower but we didn't make further enquiries to the manager about this so it may have been us. Wifi connected but unable to use the Internet which is usually not a problem but we had to book things for when we arrived back on the mainland. . The fridge in our room hadn't been cleaned and was full of off chicken and dead flies etc, we had to put it outside because we didn't get a tour around when we first arrived and we couldn't find the front desk. Staff were nice and dealt with the fridge the next day when we came across them. Location is good close to town. No breakfast or housekeeping is provided as an FYI. But it was a bed to sleep in at a reasonable price for the island.

The cabanas are basic but the bed was clean, the shower hot and if you're traveling on a budget I found it a nice place to stay. The owners did a free barbecue for the guests around twice per week, you get a free transfer from and to the airport and the owners are very nice and relaxed. Good location just off the main road. No wifi, which was a bonus for me!
