My wife and I had a wonderful experience at Chez Steve. Weeks before we arrived, Steve was already offering up useful tips. On our arrival, Steve picked us up from the airport and gave us a quick tour of Honga Roa, the main town. On the way Steve pointed out the appropriate banks for our cards, and made restaurant recommendations (the recommendations we tried were all excellent.)

The accomodations are simple but nice. The room was clean and the sheets crisp and white. It got super dark at night, so we slept very well. There were occasional dogs barking and roosters crowing—this can't be helped and you'll get it anywhere you stay on the island. But, really, it wasn't as bad as some other reviews made it seem. Bring ear plugs if this sort of thing annoys you.

The Internet worked surprisingly well considering the remoteness and connection limitations of the Island. You won't be doing many Hangouts/Skype/video conference calls, though. However, the wifi signal often didn't reach the rooms. It worked fine in the breakfast area, though.

Steve was very helpful in making our plans for exploring the island. He told us about tours, and places to visit. He also made us a referral to a rental car place who he arranged to pick us up after our first breakfast. Because of his referral we saved 10,000 CLP off the rental fee. Nice. Renting a car was totally worth it and made the island much more accessible.

Breakfast was basic but satisfactory (bread, butter jam, some cured meat or cheese or eggs, and some traditional cake or other breakfast pastry. Coffee and tea. Plus a friendly morning greeting from Steve, asking how our previous day went, and if we needed anything.) Definitely enough to keep us going until lunch. On the last day, we went to see the sunrise at Ahu Tongariki (15 moai). The night before, Steve slipped a picnic breakfast into our room's refrigerator to enjoy while we watched the sunrise. Awesome!

- the owner & his wife are really friendly & helpfull. He helped us with our plans. We also got a free transfer from and to the airport and a short city tour after we arrived.
- breakfast ist goog. Every day we got a different breakfast with fruits and fresh bread.
- wifi is basicly just in the Kirchen area, but if you keep in mind that you are on a deserted island it's ok for sending/writing and checking emails/ travelinformations

- just for information. From the accomodation it's a little bit of walking (around 10-15min) into town, but it's not a big deal. To Tamal it's just 5 min.

We were picked up at Mataveri Airport and welcomed with a lei. On the way the the guesthouse Steve drove through Hanga Roa and pointed places of interest, shops, bars and so on. Once we checked into the room we got a welcome drink and he provided even more help on how to best tour the island, which was greatly appreciated. The room was simple but perfect. It had a porch overlooking the lush garden. Breakfast was good and filling, you can also have it to go if you plan a sunrise trip. Overall we had an awesome stay at Chez Steve and would absolutely go back to stay with him.

Located about 15 minutes from the main town and 5 from the sunset viewing area.
Steve collected us from the airport and gave us a tour of the town which was great. He also advised us on some tours. If you stay here do the tour with Patricio, you will not be disappointed.
Breakfast was ok.

We had a really nice 4 night stay at Chez Steve. He and his wife greeted us in the airport with flower garlands and gave us a tour of Hanga Roa, pointing out shops and restaurants, before bringing us to our room. Chez Steve is about a 15 min walk from the village but less than 5 minutes from the best sunset view on the island. Steve was super helpful with booking us into an excellent island tour (do the tour with Patricio, it was an amazing day) and recommending places to go. Brekkie was nice every day (Chileans eat bread ham and cheese for brekkie most mornings but Steve made us crepes on our last day!) and wifi worked well in the breakfast room. I would definitely recommend staying here - it was quiet, clean, with a modern bathroom and friendly hosts. Thanks Steve!
