“A pleasant experience”
Reviewed 14 April 2012

Sergio, a retired archaeologist and the owner of the hotel, helped us with very useful information and guidance. Thanks to him, we we able to explore the island on our own, avoiding the restraints and costs of a tour.

The hotel is well located in Hanga Roa, close to the center and at a walking distance from Ahu Tautira (the best place to watch the sunset).

Unfortunately, we noticed also some shortcomings:
- no WiFi internet access in the room (as advertised when we made the reservations)
- the rooms provide the very basics, and nothing more - therefore are quite priced for the comfort provided

This hotel was alright. Its in a pretty good location, close to the ocean and to the town...but thats pretty much anywhere on the island. They'll pick you up from the airport no matter what time (I got in around 0630) and greet you with one of those flower necklaces and transport you to the hotel. The staff is full of knowlege about the island and what to do. They are very nice people working there. Once again its the staff who make this hotel. The breakfast is nice as well. I really only got this hotel because of the price...it was one of the cheaper ones on the island but I really didnt stay much in the room except for sleeping. Its kinda nice to sit on the patio and relax or read or whatever. If it wasnt for the staff this hotel would really be nothing more than average.

Walking distance to town, restaurants, beach. Friendly hotel, staff was always available and eager to provide assistance, suggestions... Hosts pick guests from the airport and provide a quick orientation of the town. Single garden room was comfortable and clean, no A/C. Wi-fi at lobby. Some insects around, mosquitoes, roaches (mostly outside, but some got in). If I visit again, I would stay here again.

Tupa Hotel is a tiny bit off the beaten track and doesn't even have a name outside it. This I think is because it was only finished fairly recently. The rooms are really great - large, white, looking out onto the garden, or for a tiny extra charge, the Pacific. Lovely bathrooms too. And it was certainly not at all expensive - much less than I had come to expect in Chile.

But there weren't many visitors there. Perhaps because it hasn't got itself onto the tourist route yet. So sometimes it was a bit like the Marie-Celeste. The owners were lovely and very helpful. Basically, if they had more visitors, they'd have more money to put into things like keeping the bar open, some extras in the rooms, keeping Reception open more hours.

But I can't fault it - welcoming, quiet, clean, great rooms and a great price!

Room Tip: Take one of the ones facing the ocean - each has lovely balcony/terrace

The Tupa Hotel was a fantastic choice for our stay on Rapa Nui.  The hotel is within walking distance to town, beach and even Ahu Tahai for a spectacular sunset. Mate u' and Elena (the son and daughter in law of the owners ) were wonderful hosts.  They were always available for assistance and even one night helped my husband and me find the different constellations in the night sky.  The two of them seemed like family to all the guests staying there. The hotel is rustic and charming and the perfect setting for a trip to another world.  We had a garden view with large patio. Our room was cool and delightful for sleeping.  There is no air conditioning but the ocean breeze blows thru the whole complex keeping things cool and delightful.  The complimentary breakfast was delicious with fresh fruits, meats, cheeses, cereals, banana bread and a toaster for other assorted breads. The dulce de leche crepes were addicting! They are waiting for you at the airport (our flight arrived at 6:30 a.m.) with flower leis and warm smiles.

Check out is at noon, but our return flight was not until 10:30pm, they let all of the guests on that flight (11 of us) stay in our rooms until we left for the complementary ride to the airport.  That really extended our trip nicely because we could hike all day and get as dusty as we pleased and still have a room to come back to for clean up before our flight.  A real bonus!
