We booked this hotel for a special summer treat - Special because it ticked all the right boxes, deluxe room, sea view, balcony, right on the sea, pool and excellent reviews.
Upon arrival we were met with a very professional check - in, however was very surprised to being asked to pay for our weeks stay even before we had started! This policy I believe is so linked to the issue we had later.
We were shown around the hotel, told our room would be ready in a couple of hours, so chilled with drinks and looking around.
The hotel itself is situated right on the beach, it's very own private beach !
The public areas of the hotel are simply class, from the dining room to the conservatory they are all very nice and plenty of very helpful staff around to take orders etc.
Eventually we received our key and went to the room. My wife who had booked this hotel back in April was in shock when we went into the room. It was simply not the room she had booked. It was small, and had one door which opened up onto the balcony. You could not see the sea from this room unless you sat at the end of the bed peering out. The balcony looked out onto the sea which was great, but just below you with it's glass roof was the conservatory with all the public looking up at you looking down! Hardly the place to be able to chill without others staring up at you!
The bathroom had so little room you could not swing a cat in it.
Overall this was most disappointing, so we went to reception to try and sort it out. I will not bother with all the detail, except to say the Manager was very nice, offering 3 alternatives, all of which were not what was booked. Sadly in the end we decided to leave the hotel, this was a lot of money to spend on a cramped room which we simply would not have booked.
And so to what I believe is the reason why the hotel charges your stay as you check in. We were told we could not be given a refund, the room was booked under the generic title of a deluxe room, and this was what we had been given. No matter how much I tried to argue this was simply not the room we booked, I was met with the same response. We did not have in writing what the specific room was, and when I asked if we could prove by speaking with the lady who had agreed the room with my wife, I was told this still would not be enough to get a refund.
Thus the title -Buyer Beware - Even if you have booked a specific room this hotel will not always honour this booking, and will refuse refund. My advice is NEVER PAY BEFORE YOU ARE HAPPY WITH YOUR ROOM!!
As you can imagine this left a very sour taste in our mouth, either stay for a week in a room we simply would have never booked, or go home some £2.6k down with no break.
We of course stayed, and to be fair this hotel is simply great, location and views are simply outstanding, staff were all very good and the spa area was also good.
I would have given the hotel 5 stars if it was not for the issue with the room, and also being waken at 7.45 each weekday morning to the noise of the building that is going on in front of you,
In conclusion even with the issues we experienced we would come back again, however, would have to upgrade to a suite as rooms are simply too small.
Finally, also be aware the rooms are situated on 2 floors, only access is stairs - no lift. If you have problems with stairs then this is not for you. Not sure if this is stated on website.

We appreciate your review, thank you and are pleased that you would return. All our hotel rooms are individual and we offer a wide range of options, including luxury apartment suites, stylish beach villas and cottages, not to mention our new beachside lodges and further suite accommodation right on the beach, coming in 2018 - all perfect for more space and private outdoor terraces and balconies or beach gardens.
Thank you for your comments regarding our staff and we agree, our Spa is good with views far out to sea. We hope to welcome you again before too long.

Wonderful hotel of elegance and comfort Staff could not be more pleasant Our second stay and we were celebrating our Ruby Wedding Were given an amazing room with full sea view and great huge comfy bed and sofa The food at the 5 course dinner was superb ending with great coffee and fudge each night The bar man Frankie made the best gin and tonics I have ever had which were an experience of a variety of gins with loads of ice and fresh fruits and lime slices

Room Tip: 104 is huge and superb sea views

We visited the Spa prior to our daughter getting married as a group of six.
We were treated like royalty .. very friendly welcome.. prosecco on ice and sea views to die for!
We had a row of very comfortable sun beds with luxurious fluffy gowns and towels at the ready.
Lunch was delivered with a smile and was delicious we enjoyed the pool and jacuzzi while we waited for our treatments.
If you are looking for a pedicure or manicure then this is the Spa to visit the hour long Luxury pedicure is worth every penny and at the end my toes and fingers would not have looked out of place at an oscars bash!!
We were absolutely spoilt here these hard working team know how to make everything special from start to finish .. so good that my two daughters booked a head in the clouds massage the following day which was amazing!
Special thanks to Sarah and Enya but also to all the girls at the C Bay Spa for making it such a memorable and special occasion x

This hotel forms part of a very large estate that was purchased very many years ago. It has its own award-winning beach, The widest range of food anyone might desire is just one of the many accolades that apply but it is the general friendly helpfulness that from the management down that is so welcome and rare in these days of staff only doing the bare minimal to keep job.
If you look up Carbis Bay Hotel on Google you will see their promotional pictures and texts,

We were complete beach bums for 2 days.

Concerned about getting food as husband needs Gluten free, but shouldn't have been. The BBQ on the beach went up to the hotel to get GF rolls, it was the most amazing burger!

Staff had a lot to contend with but felt they kept up a professional and personable service.

See you next year!
