Normally when traveling in Europe we try to stay in the center of whatever town or city we are in for the convenience of traveling to sites in the old town. This time, friends from Luxembourg made reservations for themselves and us at the Hotel Kaiseralm while we were there for a performance at the Bayreuth Wagner Festival. The hotel had a bus to transport the opera lovers among their guests to the concert, which was very convenient and comfortable. Any lack of accessibility to the city of Bayreuth was more than made up for by the charm of the hotel and its beautiful surroundings, the superlative service in both the hotel and the its restaurant. Not only did we see everything we wanted to in Bayreuth, but escaping back to the hotel each evening provided a wonderful rest and rejuvenation. Every meal in the hotel restaurant was excellent and the service was caring and efficient. It was the best vacation ever and we hope to go back soon. (Our friends have been staying there for years.)

The Kaiseralm is a hidden gem.Not very beautiful perhaps from the outside but but this is more than compensated for by the charming Bavarian style interior.Family run, the hotel offers personal service and attention which manages not to be intrusive. The rooms are large and light and impeccably clean.A bowl of fruit is provided free of charge and the minibar prices are not eye watering.Bathrooms are perhaps a little old fashioned decor wise..a bit seventies orange and brown ..unintentional retro! but everything works and its nice to have a bath after walking sometimes. The pool and sauna are lovely and there is even a small bowling alley which is fun! Breakfast is comprehensive rolls bread yoghurt fruit cereal eggs cheese cold meats bacon and all is good and guests can dine in the main dining room, on the terrace or in the traditional
Bierstubl where I had the best steak I've had in a very long time and the best service. Ideally situated for walkers skiers or culture vultures ( Bayreuth is close by )the Kaiseralm is just simply a good hotel well run and well loved by many regulars.I shouldn't really be telling..shhh.
