In this small town this Merceraria is a good place for an aperitif, coffee or snack The coffee is good as is the honey cake. There is a good selection of wines and other specialities of Madeira available. It has a rustic feel and I liked the Henriques table and chairs made from barrels.
The server however was rather sullen albeit not impolite. On leaving I noticed the cafe was supposed to have closed two hours earlier - maybe that was why he was a bit grumpy!
Loos were clean.
