I've been coming to Hotel Mare Takata for almost 10 years - that's how much I enjoy it.
The rooms are very well fitted out, with views over the harbour, or the mountains, the beds are comfortable, and the bathrooms are big, by Japanese standards.
For the little bit extra, it's worth taking a Deluxe room.
All amenities are included in the tariff - toothpaste, tooth brushes, hair brushes, bath sponges, bubble bath, pyjamas, room slippers.

My only criticism would be that the rooms are starting to look a little tired, and need a little bit of money spent on partial refurbishing.

The restaurant on the hotel Reception level provides an excellent range of fresh Japanese, and Chinese food for lunch and dinner, and a western and Japanese buffet breakfast.

Hotel Mare also has a large Function Room that can cater for weddings, and other group meetings, or conventions.

There are several beaches for swimming, and fishing, within 10 to 20 minutes drive, and an interesting museum where the Japanese were repatriated sat the end of WW2, that is a "must see", if you're in the area.

Amanohashidate - one of Japan's most famous scenic spots - is roughly 30 minutes away, by cart, and Tottori, with its desert landscape, another 20 minutes further on.

Room Tip: Pay a little extra for a Deluxe room with a harbour view, and a spa bath. Or spoil yourself, and st...

Stayed four days for business. Hotel staff were very accommodating and room was clean. Good breakfast, but the dinner in hotel was just ok. Hotel is in walking distance to restaurants and grocery store around corner. The best part was the large Ofuru in the bathroom. Great way to start and end your day.

Room Tip: Room 808 looking over bay.

I have stayed here on occassion over the last 10 years. A good hotel in Maizuru. They are well used to looking after foreign guests. Comfortable room. Breakfast buffet with a wide choice. Westerners with an open mind will find something good to eat.
Restaurant deserted in the evening.

I stayed here while on business in Japan. i was dubious about staying so far from civilization in a country with such different apporaches to language. If you are English such as myslef you will have to make allowances. for example signage and staff etc..

Apart from that i have to say the hotel is clean, well maintained, the staff are pleasant and do thier utmost to accomodate you in anyway they can. You will get broken English at best but they do try. The rooms were presentable, clean and some lucky individuals even got whirlpool baths! not me though. The bar area is good, beer was served promptly and it wasnt a bad tipple.

In the morning or late evening there is brilliant views of the dock and sea front i was even lucky enough to see some military manoeuvres being done on the quay side. Have no illusions its not what i would constitute luxury but everyting is done to a very good standard, for the rate you get your moneys worth. I will be returning.

Room Tip: Get a room with whirlpool bath it doesnt seem to cost extra.
